Sipped neat at cask strength, this is a 27-year New Yarmouth that spent its final stretch in a peated whisky cask — and that finish does most of the talking. Smoke, peat and leather sit up front, with the classic NY caramel, milk chocolate and tropical fruit peeking through underneath. It needs a good long rest in the glass to settle. Concentrated, tannic, and clearly a rum for whisky drinkers.

#5062 21.01.2025 Running some samples at home. Nose Fresh, light wood, roasted, overripe, fruity, light nougat, light nuts, spice. Palate Balanced, fresh, round, wood, light roasted, faint smoke, fruity, overripe, light tannins, light nutts, light molasses. Finish Long, wood, roasted, light tannins, fruits, light caramel, faint coffee, light citrus. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up properly.

Too much toasted for my taste, this rum is dominated by the whisky cask with peat, coffee and leather notes, both nosing and drinking. Great complexity percieved but not my piece of cake when sipping even if I have to recognise the rum is a great rum. Being the evaluation subjective, my mark is pretty low despite the quality of the rum, only due to the barrel.

Oh my ... Soo tempting on the nose! Somehow special, somehow familiar. It made me think of an old cognac. But then this ... 🙄 Surprisingly elegant and spicy and deep at first, the rum then changes its character relatively quickly: the finish has done a great job and the rum becomes a (peated) whisky in my perception. And I don't like whisky at all ... Oh man, what might be a crazy twist for some is a crash for me ... Only the great nose saves the rum to 70 points. Tip if you're not into whisky: Unlike usual, don't let this rum breathe for long.

high expectations after the RX 10419 (V&M NY 94, 56.9%) scored 90 points. However, the France Edition is significantly smokier on the nose and palate. It also has more salted caramel and less tropical fruit. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite come close to its predecessor...

Well. Great base product with the NY94. And then this whisky finish... Well, the CDI Caroni the other day was much more mangy with the Islay finish. This finish here works to a certain extent. I find it really good on the palate. But the finish... No, this is not how a high-class rum should taste. An unpleasant spiciness that you would classify as an off-note in any other rum without a finish. Overall, I give it a 70 because the stuff is very high quality. But I wouldn't call it delicious.

Cologne-Bonn rum tasting: well, probably the worst 94er NY I've had. This great base was, for me, in the barrel way too long. The peaty is way too dominant, so the typical markers stayed in the background.

Why do you have to mess up such an incredibly awesome cask from new Yarmouth with a whiskey finish (I suspect strongly islay)? Unfortunately, I did not notice the sample purchase or I can still read nothing of it but it is very noticeable in direct comparison with the predecessor new Yarmouth of valinch ... Super pity ... The money for the yet quite expensive sample I would rather have invested differently😪 Overall still tasty but the whiskey finish ruins for me just everything that has made the origin rum so special ... There is just almost nothing left of the otherwise so awesome 94 NY profile. Especially a pity because that of V&M for me was an absolute benchmark!

I would not have missed the whiskey finish, but the umpteenth standard New Yarmouth from 1994 probably not. In this respect, an interesting experiment, but I still prefer the classic representatives.

1994 New Yarmouth Cross Tasting - Part 1: The finish in the whisky cask hits hard here, with peaty and smoky notes dominating the nose, palate, and finish. Underneath, the 1994 NY character seems to shine through, but overall it's not quite my taste. You might as well just drink a single malt...

Good New Yarmouth with an unusual finish. Especially in the direct comparison, the whiskey finish stands out clearly. If you like (smoky) whiskey a great bottling with twist.

Needs some time to fullt develop its flavours. I got some dried fruits, banana, wood and spices accompanied by an earthy, peated whisky. I must say I am not a huge fan of rum aged/finished in peated whisky casks, but in this case it´s nothing too disturbing. I would even say it compliments the aromas. The taste and finish is very concentrated, full bodied again with tropical fruits, caramel, milk chocolate and quite intense tannins & peppery notes.

To be honest, I'm a little appalled.... This bottling has almost nothing to do with a New Yarmouth. The whisky finish has done a great job, unfortunately in a negative way. There is almost nothing left of a NY. This finish is definitely not a success

The smoky Islay finish is strongly noticeable on the nose, but the roundness of the New Yarmouth also seems to come through in the form of milk chocolate, vanilla, fruits, and caramel! On the palate, though, it leans too much towards the whisky side. A shame!

Slightly worse than the 26 year old Yarmouth of the same company, the taste is not so smooth. Still a decent rum, just better for the money.

Gradually, the peaty whisky notes come through more and more. A real shame, as the classic 94 NY profile is unfortunately lost. The whisky finish could really have been spared. Unfortunately, it also failed the 2nd tasting. The peaty notes completely ruin the NY94 profile.

I really like the NY94 profile, but here too a great base product is destroyed by the whisky finish. In the end, it has nothing to do with NY94 anymore. Shame.

Peaty and sour taste compared to others NY94, edit-now I even feel whisky taste in it -barley and smoke ... Beautifully sweet, creamy, like caramel. A great choice for rummers who want to switch from sweet syrups to pure spirit. New Yarmouth 1994 rarely disappoints. This is a great choice that you will always want to come back to.
