Roasted coffee and mocha lead here, with burnt sugar, dark chocolate, leather and dried fruit close behind. This 2001 Skeldon from Guyana runs oily and creamy, its 54.1% tucked in so well most tasters barely notice it. Give it half an hour in the glass and the coffee note blooms. Not the most complex Demerara, but plenty of people call it a favorite.

Overall much sweeter, a little roastier and much more bitter in the finish than I'm used to from other skeldons. All in all, however, a really tasty old Demerara as it should be. However, the intense sticky note clearly bothers me, hence the slight deductions. However, it is nowhere near the El Dorado 2000 Skeldon in a direct comparison... Compared to the 20y and 19y, it is less complex but more palatable overall and has less smoke and bitter notes and therefore more sweetness, hence a few more points...

A direct hit! The 2001 vintage from Guyana knows how to convince. This rum is not particularly complex. Coffee, chocolate, leather, dried red fruits, roasted aromas,... Very smooth and pleasant on the palate, the alcohol is perfectly integrated. This rum is tamed, showing absolutely no spiciness or peppery notes. If it were a little "fatter" on the palate and the aromas were more direct, I would find it even better. Others like this subliminal and smooth interplay of aromas more. Either way, a super rum and an excellent Guyana!

Tastes excellent to me. It's not extremely complex but just very tasty. Quite a bit of sweetness. Cappuccino, nice wood notes, roasted, slightly malty, caramel and chocolate. Pleasant drinking strength. Oily, creamy. A fine bottling. Retasting Sept 2025: super cool bottling. It was among my favorites today in the cross-tasting. Retasting 3x Skeldon from S.B.S. All three at a high level. I just really like the mark.

This was also a retaste and the points remain as initially scored. Draws wonderful curtains in the glass. Sniffing the sample glass today reveals a nice wooden nose 😊 A very well balanced and subtle profile in my mind. Could drink this all day long actually. Price to quality was very good at release.

A lively, deep nose of coffee, licorice, old wood and a fresh, mentholated side. Velvety smooth on the palate, with an explosion of aromas! Dark but complex aromas, always balanced by vegetal, minty and licorice notes. The finish is long, with all the aromas lingering on the palate. Another medieval rum that tells a story of fortified castles, wooden bridges and deep cellars.

Very beautiful reddish-brown color. Great nose. Lacquer, mocha, spicy and dried fruits. Not very complex, but very balanced. 😀😀😀 On the palate it continues similarly, the spice increases significantly. Nice finish. Great Demerara, it doesn't get much better with continental aging.

For me a super Guyana Rum, after half an hour in the glass it unfolds and shows even more great flavors. Addendum: I am thrilled! Addendum 2: Still one of my favorites, but it needs some time in the glass, great coffee flavors, wood, fruit, chocolate, everything is there.

Super exciting nose and well-integrated alcohol. Also convinced at the 2nd tasting. Edit: Tried again in a cross-comparison with partly completely different vintages and in the end also different profiles. Included the S.B.S (54.1%) also from 2001. The El Dorado Rare Cask Skeldon from 2000. The RomDeluxe from 2019, as well as the KaribikAlps Soulfire from 2018. Nose: TRC: Hard to believe this is supposed to be a SWR, blind I would probably classify it more as a REV. Lots of roasted aromas, licorice, leather and tobacco, but also dried fruits, spices and a pleasant sweetness. Definitely stands out from the SWRs I know and I really, really like it!! ED Skeldon: Simply incredibly round and inviting. Lots of chocolate, spices, sweetness, some coffee, but also coconut and wood. S.B.S: Has by far the most distinctive coffee note. But compared to the competition, it seems a bit reserved on the nose. Needs quite a while to develop. Soulfire: Seems surprisingly mature for its still young age. Molasses, licorice, raisins, chocolate, caramel, plum, there is a bit of everything here. I also like it very much. RDL: I have it in the glass for the second time after HanseSpirit. Of course, the almost 80% ABV cannot be denied on the nose. Also, unlike the Soulfire (same age, different vintage), it seems significantly less complex. For me the weakest nose. Slightly reminiscent of Belize. Palate: TRC: Feels on the palate like a hybrid of SWR and REV, also a hint of pencil shavings is present. It lacks a bit of intensity, but for me still a successful bottling!! ED Skeldon: Plays in a different league for me. Everything very balanced, alcohol perfectly integrated. A great rum! S.B.S.: Also on the palate the distinctive coffee note, chocolate, wood and also a hint of perfume. Beats the TRC narrowly. Soulfire: Could not fully convince on the palate. Molasses, licorice, caramel, dried fruits, but also something disturbing. RDL: Alcohol is noticeable on the palate as well, plus caramel, subtle coffee, vanilla, baking spices. Ranking: ED Skeldon: 9.2; S.B.S: 8.9; TRC: 8.8; Soulfire: 8.5; RDL: 8.3

The old Skeldon have such a wonderful nose, could sniff it forever: Elegant and concentrated, intense and round. Caramel spicy, dark fruity and malty woody. First you're greeted by this lovely licorice sweetness with maple syrup and lots of molasses. Right behind that, soft creamy taffy with vanilla. Gets a slightly chocolaty texture with mocha. Dark fruits alongside: cherry, dried plum, date and old blood orange. Fantastic. 92Palate: nicely concerted and full-bodied. Woody and spicy. Sweet molasses up front, distinct mocha and chocolate behind. Neatly toasted without being burnt. Slightly bitter cedar comes through with vanilla and licorice. Dried currant please some fruit. 88Overall totally delicious and a very nice rum.

8,9:On the nose, roasted wood, burnt, smoky, with roasted nuts(hazelnuts), leather, coffee, caramelized, round, dried fruits, glue, dark, vegetal molasses with licorice, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the molasses is flowery, citrus and red fruits join, vanilla and chocolate. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is strong with roasted wood notes like caramelized burnt sugar, chocolate, mocha, later caramel, spicy with vanilla, fruity with dried fruits like raisins and apricots, like a marmelade, candied fruits, the molasses is thic. 8,9:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with dark molasses and black tea, licorice, vegetal, roasted oak notes, spicy and smoky, fruity with dried, red fruits. Wow, great Guyana bottling here from S.B.S. With S.B.S you can hardly go wrong. Nice nose consisting of wood and roasted nuts, very roasty. On the palate burnt sugar dominates for me, otherwise also very roasty here. Great rum.

Spicy, strong SWR. Dark dried fruits, coffee, molasses, wooden cask and dark chocolate are the first impressions. Nicely oily in the mouth, pleasant drinking sensation... Alcohol very well integrated.

Doing a re-visit after some time and I have to say that this is really great stuff Initially I rated it 8.8, being close to 8.9. But to be honest, I can’t find any flaws. It is sweet, complex with loads of spices, wood and dried fruits. Some Grafschafter Goldsaft and here we are, 9.0. Thanks for the sample from my bottle @DevidedByZero :D

Seems more mature than the 2 years younger SWR 2001 from SBS with stronger wood notes. The dried fruit with apricot remains present in the taste but as with the younger. The nose is very inviting, besides oak a smell of cappuccino spilled over its already somewhat aged leather wallet. The alcohol is excellently integrated and the creamy texture goes well with the full flavor experience.

Old Demerara are simply awesome! Wonderfully drinkable, but also with depth, a great nose and a pleasing palate! Notes of malt, molasses and barrel aromas combine with a delicious sweetness. In a nutshell: it's fun!

Compared to the ED SWR much more lively and edgy in a positive sense. In the nose quaffable with leather and mocha rather dark and then on the palate a nice complexity with a great barrel influence. Here the barrel influence feels very on point. Great rum... The alcohol is noticeable but zero distracting. Fits well into the overall picture.

On the nose: Well balanced aged wood with typical notes. Very mild on the nose. Dried fruits, coffee, vanilla. Taste:Balanced, smooth but strong at the same time. Woody, roasted. Lovely coffee and chocolate notes that dominate the profile. Alcohol is integrated very well. Finish: Same notes with more dryness and leather. Medium-long finish Oh, yeah. This is something i could sip all night. Highly recommended

Guyana meets cough syrup with a pinch of mocha. For me, this Guyana has a nice sweetness alongside the licorice note and also a very pronounced herbal note, which strongly reminds me of cough syrup - but the awesome stuff you looked forward to when you told your mom you had a sore throat. Also, I find it extremely mild and nice to drink!

Very nice SWR representative. Creamy mouthfeel, top integrated alcohol, all flavor components balanced. Only the closeness to many column-still distillates leads to a certain risk of interchangeability.

Oh dear lord this is some good stuff, especially for It's RRP (please don't buy it, I need a huge stash of this..) Stone fruits, blackberries, dried fruits, demerara sugar, wood, raisins and sherry (hard to believe this isn't sherry finished) is what comes to my mind while drinking this. It is VERY easy to sip for it's abv - almost to easy. This is a pleaser rum. Delicious, smooth and quite harmless (except for your liver, since you could drink this all day..), so don't expect it to be mindblowing and challenging with herbal and medicinal notes. The finish is unfortunately quite short, and it keeps this rum from hitting a 90+ score.

Trade fair tasting, therefore shorter: Nose pure chocolate, fruity, dark, old & woody. Quite sweet with a slight bitterness, coffee in variation, very heavy and deeply fruity. Incredibly long finish. My highlight so far.
