#25th B dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: spicy, roasted Mouth: spicy, roasted, mocha Finish: long, astringend, mocha, roasted, oak, cognac This is one of the few rums I personally don't like. The alcohol could be integrated better, but for a foursquare it’s such OK This is super hard… i think this is from Monymusk ca.60% approx. 15 Years

Many thanks for the addition in the RumX calendar to Jarek👍🏻! I would never have come across Foursquare here! Overall, the alcoholic sharpness predominates, but there are nice hints of chocolate and mocha!

RumX Advent calendar 2022: For the finale, I expected more, but it was just the addon anyway. Quite a lot of caramel and wood. The alcohol is constantly noticeable in nose and palate. Not outstanding, but okay

A fairly direct young Foursquare, revealing notes of coconut, chocolate, caramel and soft spices with a subtle touch of wood. The typical olfactory profile of Foursquare here is terribly basic, simplistic and even a bit aggressive with the alcohol, whose fumes are felt. On the palate, the attack is even more alcoholic. The sting of the alcohol is quite unpleasant and prevents appreciating the few (already scarce) aromas this rum presents. You can feel a slight influence of the Cognac cask, but it doesn't go further with caramel, chocolate, young wood, some dried fruits and spices. The finish is just as unmemorable, quite short with these caramelized and spicy notes, without much spectacle. Unfortunately, a very unstable rum that suits neither a seasoned palate nor novices.

Thanks to the community for this addition in the calendar. The finish gives a bit more here, while the typical FS notes remain dominant, the cognac cask especially comes through in the finish. In the end, both rums are a bit too alcoholic or sharp, finding the right balance and the right timing for a bottling is an art you have to learn.

RumXmas 2022, #25, Bonus A & B: I poured the samples during Christmas dinner with family, so it wasn’t really the occasion for a lot of analysis up front. A is the original 8YO Foursquare and B is this one (extra 9 months in cognac cask). So far I’m not always a fan of cognac finishes because I often find it adds a sort of “harshness” to the rum, what I also find in this case. Both samples needed a lot of time to open up and even after a couple of hours the alcohol is stil present. It’s interesting to taste these two samples next to eachother. The A sample was more round to me and the B a little less sweet. After a lot of time some Foursquare notes were present, more detectable in A. I’m glad that the situation caused me to take a lot of time, it did justice to the rum.

Young and quite sharp rum. Even if you know it's FS, the character can only be vaguely tasted. Coconut, chocolate and caramel come through. In the finish then dried apricot and nut. Alcohol quite strong though. Cool action anyway! Thanks for the donation in the calendar.

After I tried Batch#2, now back to the roots and trying Batch#1. I can’t confirm the reviews I read before. Probably because my sample from Flo is from a bottle that’s been opened for a while. I can already taste the typical Foursquare notes here, as well as the Cognac finish. I find the rum rather strong, the alcohol isn’t perfectly integrated but still bearable. For the first attempt, huge respect to you again.
