Sipped neat, this pours mahogany and drinks far softer than 51.2% suggests. The port cask does the heavy lifting: raisins, sour cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco and a spicy, woody backbone, with just a whisper of the grassy cane underneath. At the first tasting, I awarded this St. Aubin a full 88 points and can confirm this at the second attempt. Very tasty, wet tobacco, raisin chocolate... Super elegant, but different from the majesty of Neisson. I'll have to get a bottle after all! Thank you @Gunnar!

Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar (day 9) and first RumX community meeting in Acht. A warm and complex nose with dry herbs, yellow fruits, very ripe banana and a pastry side in nice balance with the fruits. The first mouthfeel is soft, then the aromas build up, fruits and vegetal side with vanilla and a very pleasant slight sweetness. Quite balanced. The finish is moderately long on vanilla, wood and a nice bitterness. The fruits linger for a long time.

I'll make it short: You can rely on Frank's ratings. His assessment of this rum has made me curious. I got myself a sample and did not regret it, on the contrary - now I have to get a bottle. Exceptionally successful distillate of the little-known distillery Saint Aubin on Mauritius (which is always worth a visit). I can only unreservedly agree with the assessment of Frank. Delicious!

So now also the two 2010s from Gunnar his legendary Mauritius Split in the glass. Both are a lot of fun. For an Agricole, which I don't really prefer, it tastes extremely good to me. Seems to be due to the good tropical storage.

The first time I smelled it, gravy immediately came to mind. Of course it's the port cask, but I've never noticed it in this form before. There are also dried fruits and the subtle grassy aromas make it immediately clear that this is a rum based on sugar cane juice. On the palate, there are also very present port wine notes, slightly nutty, some caramel, spices, grapes and here, too, you can tell that this is a distillate based on sugar cane juice. I like it very much.

Absolute huge surprise! My new reference for St. Aubin! Dark chocolate, saffron, cherry, blackberry, port wine influences, fuzzy kiwi, caramel, a bit of tobacco. Super pleasant to drink and perfectly balanced. Incredibly exciting unique profile.

Today the highly praised Saint Aubin 2010 is in the glass. On the nose I first get polish and hazelnut-vanilla ice cream. Then more fruit and strong wood influence. On the palate a mixture almost strange to me of strong wood aromas, ice candy, some mint and dark notes. But also a certain coolness. The finish then rather woody again and also somewhat alcoholic. Here the rum falls apart. Overall it doesn't quite grab me. The barrel influence is strong and sometimes I get off notes. That's certainly a matter of taste, but they bother me quite a bit.

8,8:On the nose, various fruits like raisins, black currants, black berries, prunes and cherries, then dried apricots and citrus, roasted wood notes with chocolate, caramel, roasted nuts, spicy, concentrated, sugar cane with tobacco, bump into our nosetrils, as port barrel finish is obvious. On aeration, new roasted wood notes like leather, coffee, pastry, fruit cake, arise, hints of toasted coconut from bourbon barrel ageing, flowery cane, dark with licorice. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is intense with roasted wood notes, caramelized, sweet, spicy with cardamom and salty, port notes like raisins, cherries, perhaps sour cherry, bourbon dried apricots, concentrated.When the rum is oxidized, vanilla is out, minty, flowery and grassy sugar cane, dark with licorice, leather and chocolate. 8,7:The finish is long, balanced, dry and tannic, as various fruits like currants, cherries, citrus and yellow fruits, maracuja, pair sugar cane, herbaceous, dark with black tea, grassy with hay, vegetal with saffron, earthy with tobacco and roasted wood notes like caramel, dark chocolate, coffee, spicy and oaky, some dairy hints pop out. It was hard to find a rum with more than 45% ABV at the Mauritius-Chamarel&Co booth at HanseSpirit. Then there was this one and it had me immediately! What an aroma. Sample bottled and now in peace to try at home. Nose: fantastically intense spicy-woody-fruity, complex and round. A concentrated array of aromas. Initially vanilla, fragrant cherry wood and pipe tobacco are up front, accompanied by sulfured raisin, prune and cherry and black currant. Also seems pleasantly toasty, toasted and laughingly smoky next to it. A subtle and tart sweetness of maple syrup and slightly sour and licorice molasses can be heard in the background. Would say the 8 years of tropical aging in a port wine barrel have done the rum really good. 90 Palate: concentrated and elegant, spicy-woody-fruity. The port wine barrel clearly comes through here. A pleasant blend of sour cherry, sulfured raisin and sweet and tart kiwi. At the front, however, first comes a wave of cardamom, slightly salty-peppery, then saffron with a hint of mint. Then in the back the port with the fruit. Hay on the finish. Very nice. 84 A very nice rum, where the finish (although this is rather the main maturation here) has come really well.

Tasted at Hanse Spirit 2023. Really nice Agricole, truly my highlight at the fair and makes you want more. Wood, dark red fruits on the nose. This continues on the palate, strong and spicy with very well integrated alcohol. Unfortunately it also has its price but I'm glad to have received a bottle as a gift anyway.

This rum is very complex, you could say, it is great. But this spicy is not my cup of tea. Somebody will be amazed by this rum and I can distinguish its potential. Unfortunately, personally I am not pleased by the taste.

Wow, the next strong one, so the one with 51%, no, you hardly taste the alcohol, this rum is so soft. Vanilla and caramel dominate here, it's slightly roasted, but also slightly woody and spicy.

At first, the nose is a bit reserved, but with more air it becomes delicately balanced. Present wood, spice of green pepper and allspice, cocoa, roasted nuts, and subtle dried fruits. On the palate, the spice comes forward, along with roasted aromas, again dark chocolate and nutty notes. Intensely bitter but never out of balance. An appealing level.

Really nice aromas, consisting of red fruits and cask. Taste-wise a great depth and complexity with very well integrated alcohol. Those who usually only drink molasses-based rum can safely enter the world of sugarcane-based rums here.

Another surprise from Mauritius. Supposed to be sugarcane juice distilled in pot still, very little remains from the juice but the profile is still nice. A lot of influence from cask: on the nose port, plums and dried raisins, along with tobacco and caramel. Drinking, it's a bit rough and salty, and the barrel adds a bit of spices.

Great rum, which at first smells a bit sharp and I was a bit worried if the alcohol was well integrated. But whether after 5 or 30 minutes, the taste is wonderfully round! Distinct notes of wood and port, red fruits and raisins with chocolate - mega combination!

Blind, I wouldn't place the aroma anywhere. The long aging after port has done its job. Dates, cinnamon and fruit are quite noticeable. There's something interesting I can't identify. Taste-wise I'd compare it to FS, but with a certain agricole charm. An original piece.

Intense and spicy on the nose with caramel, lots of raisins and a few cherries. On the palate it starts directly spicy, concentrated, a bit woody and then quickly moves to sweet fruitiness from raisins, very ripe mangoes, cherries, a bit of caramel and a little vanilla. The finish is still spicy-woody with some vanilla and then, very surprisingly, the taste of raspberries really stays on the tongue for a long time. For me a great and complex drop.

Color: Mahogany Smell: Mild and round in the mouth. After some time, it becomes spicy and slightly sharp. When swallowing, woody (barrel) with aromas of chocolate, toffee, and port wine. Finish: Medium-long and woody. Remains mild and round. Dry and woody in the aftertaste.
