Samaroli T.D.L Fernandes 2003
"Super minty, fruity, dirty" is how one taster summed it up, and that nails this 2003 TDL. Expect a big menthol and fresh-mint hit alongside peach, apricot and blackberry, with tobacco, light smoke and a touch of rubber underneath. Several noted a slightly closed nose that needs air, and a few wished it were bottled at full cask strength.
The community says- Strong menthol-mint
- Juicy dark fruit
- But: Nose stays closed

How does Samaroli T.D.L Fernandes 2003 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Minty, fruity, slightly dirty Trinidad sipper Loved for its signature menthol-mint, juicy dark fruit and dirty edge. A few felt the reduction softened it too much and wanted more punch, but most call it a very good TDL.

This T.D.L. is a good rum, but I don't like something here. The nose is okay, the palate has a lot of menthol and light fruits. The palate lacks intensity and the finish is short. For the price, a no-brainer in the opposite sense =P Second tasting: - 4 pts.

Sour taste and the most prominent flavor is grape wine.

A very fruity nose with citrus, not very ripe exotic fruits, starfruit and flowers. On the palate, an explosion of fruits with a bit of menthol. The finish is long and elegant. A delicious rum, tasted blind and can't deny its origin. Compared directly with the Whisky Jury 2003 67.9%, it seems better, more elegant and less marked by woody bitterness.

A TDL with a very caramelized nose. Then mentholated, woody. The nose is rather closed. On the palate, it's much more expressive: very present mint, fruit, tobacco. Dark and smoky. Reminds me very much of the TDL CDI selected by Caksus. Rather long finish. Very minty. A hint of dirtiness. It's a very particular profile that won't appeal to everyone. For me, it's a very good representative of this vintage's TDLs. The oxidation of the bottle really suits it.

I also had the Nobilis 2003 and the TDLRoni to compare with this one. Unfortunately, the latter drifts a little towards the mentholated side, which does not allow for a better rating. Those who like this profile will certainly enjoy it.

Could be a little more intense, unfortunately too diluted... There would have been a lot of upside potential here if a pure cask strength had been bottled. Too bad. All in all, however, a tasty, drinkable TDL.

👃 We start with a beautiful fruitiness, on candied apricot, fresh yellow peach, grapefruit, and lychee. The lively side of the alcohol turns into crushed fresh mint leaf, but also the menthol side of tiger balm. Dehydrated red berries join the party. All of this is covered with a nice slightly woody caramel. 😋 Quite lively and refreshing alcohol. We find fresh lychee, grapefruit, bitter orange, tropical fruits, and typical iced peach. A slight bitterness also on the white flesh of the almond. Then, menthol, mint, Vicks vaporub, salty licorice, wood smoke. It's evolving. ⛳ Warm, tiger balm, followed by a slight briny veil on green olive. Medium to long finish. Candied apricots on the empty glass, then olive, gunpowder, smoked ham. Finally, the reduction is optimal. I love it. 🏅 This Trinidad Fernandes proudly carries the classic markers of the TDL 2003, fruits galore, mint/menthol, with a dirtier side (smoke, light rubber). Very good.

One word: DELICIOUS🤤🤤 Super minty, fruity, dirty…. Superb rum😎 Nose: an overwhelming note of minty, menthol, tobacco, dirty notes like rubber and bicycle tube, dried apricot, peaches and blackberry with a bit of oak. Mouth: Pretty much the same notes as before, but less dirty. Finish: Long and minty, menthol, peaches, dried apricot, caramel! The alcohol and barrel are so integrated well!!!
Review by TheRhumhoe
An exuberant, easy-drinking TDL that leaves you wanting more. The nose is particularly aromatic: menthol and violet give an invigorating air, while fruit (peach, blackcurrant, blackberry, apricot, red fruit) is full and juicy. Roasted oak, spices and caramel are soft and warm. A very fragrant, gourmand nose. The attack on the palate is suave, delicate and savory. Despite a potential reduction, the aromas are well present: rubber, floral and menthol notes, a myriad of fruits and spicy wood form a round, aesthetic and very drinkable whole. The alcohol is well-integrated, so much so that one is tempted to take it back like whey. The finish is long, sensual but not devoid of character, with tobacco, dirty rubber and menthol, followed by spice, smoke and fruit. Very round and balanced. A very solid Samaroli, a real treat for lovers of the genre.

8,6:On the nose, minty, grassy molasses, some menthol, bicycle tube, tons of fruits like black berry, mandarine, passion fruit, dried apricots, roasted wood notes like caramel, chocolate, spicy, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is earthy with tobacco, flowery, grassy with hay, glue, rubber and metallic patina join, pastry, roasted nuts and allspice. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is intense, dirty with rubber, tar hints, some menthol, roasted wood notes like pastry, caramelized, smoky, spicy with allspice, vanilla, ginger, peppery, slightly salty, fruits like peaches, dried apricots, tropical, citrus and molasses is grassy, flowery, minty, vegetal, earthy with tobacco. 8,5:The finish is long, dry&tannic, dirty, industrial, charred, darker, with notes from the palate lingering on. Edit:6.10.26

Once again a very good and typical representative of the 2003 TDL vintage with the so concise mint note. Due to the slight reduction, this bottling is not so strenuously drinkable, rather an easy sipper.

#6148 28.12.2025 Last online tasting if the year with the guys. It's been a great year, probably one if the craziest one's ever 🥰 Met many new run friends both online and in person, travelled a lot Germany, Belgium, France and Sweden. Next year should be a bit more tranquil I hope, because I have a ton of samples 🙃 Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, fruits, mint, light tobacco, berries, light floral. Palate Oily, light wood, faint smoke, mint, light caramel, light tobacco, currant, faint rubber, light floral. Finish Medium to long, light wood, berries, light caramel, light earthy, faint rubber. Empty glass Light smoke, faint rubber, caramel, mint, light vanilla.

The nose is fruity (red fruits). On the fermented fruits! Caramel/mint/Funky and hydrocarbon (how strange, we are not at Caroni though!). In mouth, it is even more expressive than the nose. We find a mixture of mint/fruit/smoke. The finish is long on a note of intense mint! Personally I was already intrigued by it during the Salon du Rhum and here it is confirmed! I am very happy to have picked up a bottle at the friend Min to be able to dive back in soon...

Wow, delicious rum. The nose and palate are predominantly minty. This rum is also very fruity. It also comes across as intense and dirty on the palate. All in all, an excellent rum with well-integrated alcohol.

TDL tasting evening: 5 for 1! Here we have: the perfect texture, oily as can be Nose: yellow fruits, menthol is not very present, but there's a gourmand side with caramel and wax. Palate: fruit forward, with a hint of tobacco too Finish: medium-bodied, should be longer, with a hint of astringency that I feel loses points.
Review by Mentalo
Agreeable T.D.L that doesn't need as much time in the glass as other bottlings from the distillery. On the nose still caramel notes. On the palate then mint, red fruits, a bit dirty towards Caroni and unfortunately also a bit smoky. The latter bothers me a bit, but still a good bottling.
Review by Jakob
Nice TDL with typical menthol notes alongside the wood and spice influences. Plus fresh fruit aromas that on the finish almost remind of a fruit-forward cognac. Appealing release at a high level.
Review by Alexander Rasch
This TDL somehow has two sides. The nose is very closed. First caramel. After 30min comes the great mint. On the palate then a great TDL profile. Here comes a great blend of mint, fruit and smoke. A nice TDL where the nose would have to open up a bit more.
Review by Morgan Garet
Superb nose of menthol, violet, black fruits, and caramel. On the palate, it's a beautiful balance between the floral violet, various spices, citrus, and the freshness of menthol. The finish is very long on menthol and violet. Perfect.
Review by Fabulon
A somewhat closed and almost shy nose, even with good aeration, but what an explosion on the palate! Typical of Tdl from the early 2000s, a woody menthol, lifted by black fruits like blackcurrant, spices and a very slight smokiness. And a long finish continuing the nose. Great rum. The reduction didn't bother me, I find it very good at this strength.

It's very good, despite a lack of watts for my taste. A little return almost caroni and minty It is well done. Nice length I like it
