Best sipped neat with a drop of water to tame the heat. This Puerto Rican rum leans woody and spicy, with dried apricot, peach and vanilla from the cognac cask, plus honey and milk chocolate underneath. Several tasters flag a sharp, almost vinegary edge and note the oak can get heavy. Pleasant and easygoing, but not everyone's convinced.

Pleasant spicy wood notes. Especially in the finish a lot of honey. Vanilla is neatly present. Fruit remains in the background. Alcohol is well integrated per se, but the finish is very intense. Beautiful glue nose.

Alcohol could be much better integrated, cognac and wood influence too dominant for my taste. The previous single barrel from Don q was better and more convincing... Above all, I don't think it's worth 60€.

#5475 12.07.2025 Late tasting with a set of friends and I'm always happy when we meet up. Nose Intense, wood, light honey, faint nutts, faint smoke, fruits, sweet, light orange, Palate Medium intense, wood, light roasted, light honey, light dried fruit, light orange, faint chocolate, light leather. Finish Medium to long, wood, faint smoke, fruits, light tannins, light orange, light honey. Empty glass Chocolate, honey, ginger, light orange, berries.

After Dirk on the HanseSpirit has raved about this rum or the family business behind DonQ, I've just accepted him times the half-full bottle. Spanish style with after all just under 50%. At the fair I found the finish in a cognac barrel not disturbing, but quite appropriate. Let's see how he is so.... Nose: at the beginning the alcohol stings a bit, then it becomes spicy-woody-fruity, green apple with sour cherry and apricot. Behind that light vinegar and some red pepper with nutmeg and vanilla. Milk chocolate out the back. Pleasant and approachable. 74 Palate: spicy-woody. Seems quite light at the start, but then gets a nice chocolaty texture. That cognac finish comes through clearly with peach and apricot. Overall approachable and a nice representative of the Spanish style. 78

Tasted at the Hanse Spirit 2024 Very light, but with an alcoholic sharpness, both on the nose and in the mouth. Dried apricot on the nose, the cognac comes through well in the mouth. Doesn't really pick me up

Strong acetic/vinegar notes, slightly chemical on the nose. However, the palate is relatively mild with subtle fruitiness. The palate notes are inoffensive relative to the nose, but not particularly interesting.

Nose: medium intense. Toasted wood, vanilla, orange peels, marmalade, apricot. Quite sweet aroma, with hint of Cognac & syrup. Palate: little bit sharpness & spicy. Sweet, woody. Wow, so lot of dry apricots ! Some peaches, vanilla, marmalade, honey. For my opinion, too much oak, but it's still tasty. Aftertaste: medium-short. Sweet, woody, spicy, vanilla. Little bit of dry apricots. Conclusion: well, it's also simple, but tasty rum. Too much oak, too sweet, but you can try it. This one, have not perfect ballance, so maybe, you will need some water.
