Mit 20 Jahren schon deutlich alt und dann krasse 68%, da bin ich sehr gespannt… Nase: ungewöhnlich zurückhaltend und verschlossen zu Beginn. Man bemerkt aber gleich eine sehr konzentrierte Aromenfülle. Sehr angenehme, weiche und doch intensive Eiche, die sich wunderbar mit Vanille, Ahornsirup und braunem Karamell verbindet. Fein würzig liegen alte, getrocknete Sternanis und getrocknete Orangenscheiben dahinter. Dunkle Früchte wie Brombeere und Kirsche geben etwas dezente Frucht, Kelso und Tonkabohne weitere Süße. Wirkt malzig. Sehr rund, tief und Fiji untypisch, aber sehr angenehm. Die 68% sind nicht im geringsten spürbar. 8,8 Gaumen: Schön! Intensiv und kräftig und doch ausgewogen. Sehr gut integrierter Alkohol. Holzig, würzig und dunkel-fruchtig zugleich. Alte Eiche und Sandelholz und dazu wieder die getrocknete Sternanis und die getrocknete Orange zusammen mit Muskat und Vanille. Röstig, malzig und leicht salzig ist er auch. Süße von Ahornsirup, Tonkabohne und Schokolade. 9,0 Die typischen Fiji-Aromen sucht man auch hier, aber das ist ein großartiger, aromatisch tiefer Rum.

The definition of a Brett and High Ester rum that was fermented wild even if it tastes different than Hampden, the association with Jamaica is somehow there. Best High Ester Fiji Rum I had so far in the glass. Deductions in the B grade because the alcohol is already noticeable there.

Second tasting, -2 points. A good rum that is surprisingly fruity and sweet! The medicinal sweetness always resonates and lacks some complexity. The finish gets a little dirty with gum and burnt sugar, ensnared in a coat of floral honey-melon syrup. Every sip is fun and the Fiji becomes more and more pleasing. Unfortunately, the alcohol is not very well integrated, which costs a lot of points.

A particularly powerful, full-bodied Fijian rum. Yet the nose suggests a more supple rum, with notes of exotic fruit, esters, cherry, wood, toast, floral notes, caramel and milk chocolate. The bourbon cask reinforces this impression of deliciousness. The attack on the palate is muscular and intense. Empyreumatic notes and spices quickly raise the temperature, followed by dry oak and tannins. A bitterness settles in with esters, while pineapple and aromatic herbs try to make their way through the alcohol, here particularly powerful. The finish is very long and clean. Smoky, woody and spicy notes dominate, but floral, herbal and medicinal essences, accompanied by exotic and dried fruits, balance this highly concentrated profile. A rum with a strong sensation, not to be placed in every hand.

This was a very nice release. The overall balance is really nice and I really liked the switch from nose to palate. The empty glass reveals even stronger notes ogmf chocolate and roasted wood.

The nose is beguilingly fruity (sour cherry and other sweet / sour red fruits), the longer it lingers also join toasty coffee aromas.On the palate first the full power of alcohol! 68% want to be tamed ... but once this is done, intense atoms of wood, barrel, mocha and herbs develop! Finally, a distinct note of violet appears!!!Like the palate, the finish continues...intensely woody and herbal. Would theAlcohol better integrated there would have been at least 2-3 points more!

2002 Fiji hatte ich bisher noch nicht, bin also gespannt. Und dann auch noch 20 Jahre auf dem Buckel. An der Nase anders als erwartet kaum noch ester zu finden, aber dem hohen Alter auch nicht abwegig. Stattdessen Kaffee, süße Vollmilchschokolade und Karamell. Mit etwas Zeit kommt doch noch ein Hauch Frucht dazu. Insgesamt recht unauffällig, ähnlich dem 2004 Nobilis. 79/100 Am Gaumen dann doch noch eine Überraschung. Hier ist noch ein tolles fruchtiges Aroma erhalten geblieben und ergänzt die Aromen der Lagerung ausgezeichnet. Eine tolle Mischung aus Süß und bitter, erinnert mich an leicht verbrannten Zucker. Die 68% sind bemerkbar aber dennoch gut eingebunden. 85/100 Der Abgang ist dann nochmal ein weiteres kleines Highlight. Gesamtwertung also 82 + 2 extra für das tolle Gesamtpaket.

Strong rum with lots of barrel notes and strong roasted aromas. Pleases with very well. Goes more in the direction of the 2004s. Amazing how similar the vintages are. Very good rum. Alcohol content extreme but just caught. Somewhat below expectations.

An der Nase wirkt der Rum noch etwas unrund, eine dezente kräutrige Fehlnote ist erkennbar; davon abgesehen säuerliche Fruchtnoten. Dieser noch nicht sonderlich verheissungsvolle Start dreht am Gaumen aber deutlich in ein sehr ausgewogenes Profil mit schweren Süssnoten von Toffee, Vanille und Milchschokolade sowie reifen tropischen Früchten, leichter Würze und etwas floralen Einschlägen. Die Alkoholintegration empfinde ich für die hohen Stärke als vollkommen akzeptabel, die 68% sind erkennbar, aber keinesfalls unangenehm. Positive Überraschung.
