This 2004 Clarendon (17 years, cask strength) leans mango, maracuja and papaya with glue and vanilla, then flips on the palate to menthol, green pepper and lime. Spontaneous tasting with FischeJ on the roof terrace of our hotel. First of all, thanks for all the drams and the nice conversation. About the rum itself, probably the best of the evening for me. I found it quite drinkable and for such a "young" Clarendon it's quite good. The price is reasonable

Very nice 2004 Clarendon. Tropical aging adds depth and tropical fruits. The slight reduction in ABV is to point, not making the rum feel diluted but puts it at an excellent drinking strength. Very nice cask of the vintage.

Solid, typical Clarendon, resinous and lemony, with a mega finish. Of course, it still doesn't come close to the now legendary Clarendons from before the turn of the millennium (1995, 1997).

8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get are overripe tropical fruits with mango, banana and maracuja, as a wood is roasted, spicy with allspice, molasses is vegetal and there's some glue. On aeration, citrus, green apple arise, the molasses is waxy, grassy and flowery, roasted wood brings in caramel, pastry. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is tasty with overripe tropical fruits like mango, some citrus like lime, as the molasses is vegetal, floral, the wood roasted with caramel, pastry, leather, spicy with vanilla, allspice, green pepper.After resting the rum, dried figs could be found and some menthol or even camphor, a disbalancing act of indeed pleasant first impression. 8,2:The finish is dry, earthy with palate notes lingering on, some more dried fruits, quickly becoming quite unpleasantly bitter, disbalanced with waxes, camphor. This rum is also very good. It has a lovely nose of tropical fruits such as mango and passion fruit. A completely different picture on the palate. Menthol predominates here, and it is also very spicy, with green pepper and allspice standing out.

Rather wild and young Clarwndon, typical banana and tropical fruit taste that ends jn a medium/short finish. A bit one dimensional and not very complex, but still very tasty. Can be a good entry to Jamaica rums

Thanks to Banana Joe for the sample!! Here we have a really tasty, fruity Clarendon. On the nose you find various fruits like passion fruit, mango, papaya, a bit of glue. On the palate, fine menthol notes join in. The alcohol is well integrated and the finish is medium length.

Very astringent on the palate, the tropical ripening is noticeable. But then very herbal. A peppermint/menthol flavor masks the beautiful tropical fruit. Not really my cup of tea. Alcohol is well integrated. The finish takes things up a notch, because it's really great!

The nose is initially dominated by glue, tropical fruit and spices. Also something metallic and slightly charred aromas. Then a peppery attack on the palate, with tropical fruits, spices and wood. All in all, I like it very much.

Good Clarendon, which clearly shows the tropical maturation - for me, tropical maturation is essential for Clarendons. Lots of fruit, great spiciness, oak, something waxy. Neat.

A Jamaican on the rather spicy-tart side. Fruit is present, but is already accompanied on the nose by many other aromas, ranging from pepper to roasted notes to somewhat irritating waxy-soapy associations. Definitely complex in taste, just not completely on my preferred line.

Im Vergleich mit dem zwei Jahre und zehn Prozent wichtigeren nobilis. Sowohl höherer abv als auch zusätzliche Reife tun dem nobilis gut. Wirkt insgesamt leicht komplexer allerdings sind 67% natürlich nicht ohne. Der hier im Fokus stehende von precious liqours ist durch diese Rahmendaten deutlich zugänglicher bringt ein schönes Aromenprofil mit welches sich aber auch im Glas entwickeln muss bevor vor sich wunderbar tropische Fruchtnoten entfalten. Mir persönlich sagt der nobilis dennoch etwas mehr zu. Beim precious kommen im Finish noch etwas Bitterkeit hinzu die ich beim Clarendon so nicht hatte.

Belle couleur ! Nez esters, colle, bonbon lutti, fruits pomme, boisé, sève / résineux Texture grasse, par contre l’alcool est tout de même présent. Quelques notes florales parmi les fruits et les épices, assez présents. Pomme acidulée, poivre, un peu de camphre et d’astringence. Plaisant, avec du peps, et un bon retour, on ne s’ennuie pas ! Léger beurre et caramel agréable. Finale tout de même épicée, muscade ?

Very floral and flowery, but also very fruity on the nose. Extremely fresh on the palate, mentholated like a mouthwash, with various spices such as green and black pepper, allspice and a little vanilla, as well as papaya, lime peel and a good amount of camphor. Good but also a bit extreme and not really to my taste.

#5333 Tasting at the German Rum Fest 2024 where I forgot to put the tasting live 😂 Nose Fresh, medium intense, fruity, light vegetal, wood, light banana, overripe, light mango. Palate Oily, wood, light roasted, faint grass, floral, faint chocolate, fruity, light citrus, light caramel, medium spicy. Finish Oily, medium spicy, wood, faint smoke, light leather, faint glue, citrus, light banana.

On the nose a very fruity fellow. Vanilla is joined by papaya with a decent dose of glue. Strong nose. On the palate nice menthol and mint with a nice slightly peppery finish. I like Clarendons more and more. Also has a nice complexity.

Jamaica without Hampden Tasting: on the nose quickly a bit alcoholic. On the palate super fruity (both tropical and dried fruits), which unfortunately doesn't last into the finish. Still a great sipper.

Brings a lot of fun, feels more stable than experimental. It's Jamaica, so funk and esters on the nose, what else do you want to interpret there? It probably won't be currywurst. On the palate, though, it leaves a bit to be desired. It feels one-dimensional, metallic and bitter, almost sharp. Plus menthol and a spice I can't quite grasp. All in all, a nice representative from Jamaica that will appeal to its own audience in its fine facets - too bad I'm not part of it.

Clarendon isn’t my favorite and I particularly have an issue with this MMW marque. The mentholated and green notes on the palette, as well as the excessive varnish and bitter herbs on the finish simply aren’t very pleasant. It tastes very ‘interesting’ but for me, not very nice.

Again, a little different than what I would expect from Jamaica at first. The funky estery fruit is there in the aroma, and in the taste too, but it's complemented by intensely more technical notes, where at times I thought about soap.

Tasted @ Salon du Rhum 2024 and at Stijn's place. I don't have a lot of experience yet with Clarendons, but this one is nice, tasty and can be recommended. Would be interesting to be able to compare it to other vintages.

Curious rum. The background is on wood with spices (notably green pepper at the start of the palate), but in the middle of the palate, there's a fruity push carried by menthol. It's quite short and falls back on nuts and chocolatey wood for the finish. The nose is also pleasant. Very fresh. With this lime that seems to be the highlight of this fruity push.

J’aime beaucoup. Belle complexité, explosion de saveur au nez et en bouche avec une belle longueur. Des fruits tropicaux, du boisé et des épices dominent, et des notes de cuir et de chêne se développent ensuite. Permis les meilleurs clarendon que j’ai pu déguster 🤩🤩

Very fruity on the nose. There's always a bit of a chemical/medicinal vibe. Also quite a lot of wood already on the nose. But in a positive way. In my opinion, everything complements each other very well. Also the alcohol. There's a bit of marzipan too, though lightly. On the palate very nice. There's a slightly dull coating over the whole mouth cavity, which is also meant positively. Fruity, light mint (or rather artificial, menthol-like), the wood is there and glue. Or something similar. I can't really describe it. The finish is long and nicely woody. The fruitiness slowly fades and the wood remains. And something metallic. A very good rum. Everything is well integrated and balanced, I would say. Clear recommendation.
