Pleasant nose, mouthfeel and finish. All kinds of roasted aromas and sweet components. Bitterness and cocoa are present. Spices such as vanilla and cinnamon are also present. I think the price is also okay. I like it!

Sweet with slight hints of caramel and vanilla ,but the alcohol taste is quite dominant despite being only 43%. The flavors feel shallow and lack complexity. Short finish. Nothing memorable or exciting.

Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All ratings are my personal, unpaid opinion. The first Limited Edition from Cihuatan that comes close in taste to the Nahual but not quite at the same level. Still a fantastic blend that gained a bit more complexity through the use of ex-oloroso & ex-cognac casks. Really like it!

#5297 03.05.2025 Running some samples while watching "Bumblebee" Nose Round, light wood, faint nutts, light caramel, faint ginger, light fruits. Palate Oily, round, light wood, faint roasted, spice, light ginger, light caramel, sweet, light nutts, fruits. Finish Medium long, oily, spice, dried fruit, faint chocolate, light caramel. Empty glass Caramel, vanilla, light chocolate, light honey. Surprisingly good rum considering the price tag.

This rum is also quite okay. Rather a bit sweetish, tastes and smells towards chocolate and caramel. For me, though, the alcohol is not properly integrated; you still have it in your mouth for too long after enjoying it.

The nose is relatively weak with dried fruits, honey, caramel, and light chocolate, as well as nuts. Taste: honey, caramel, vanilla, nougat, chocolate, and raisins. There is also a slight peppery note. The finish is short.

Fair tasting, therefore scarcer: More intense in alcohol than the other Cihuatan, cinnamon and ginger, warm, chocolaty. In terms of taste, it goes one better in terms of chocolate and is also darker than, for example, the Indigo, but also still has the more milky tones. Very round in the alcohol - concise but not unpleasant. Class! Addendum 1 from tasting: fruit, wood and cognac came out much better here now. Chocolate slips a bit more into the background. Again better!

Read full review ›The brand Cihuatán again proves that it not only makes beautiful designs of its products with elements of Mayan culture, but that it can produce really good rums. Alux is for me a really successful rum, which despite the 'lower' % alcohol can confidently and without problems present its rich profile. I really like that you really feel the individual components in the rum that refer to the story behind the name of this rum.

Sweetened like hell, not like this is particularly unpleasant. Bit take a less than ok rum and fill it up with sugar. It isn't exactly an art form. This is rather non interesting and again I still don't get the appeal.
