Earth, peat and damp soil hit first — one taster called it "huge soil taste..soil and dirt," and that captures the Port Mourant profile here. Underneath there's oak, leather, nuts and a green apple/pear brightness. At 62.6% cask strength the wood dominates the palate: earthy, herbal, a touch bitter. Several people kept thinking of Highland whisky rather than classic rum.

Second tasting: nice complex PM (+1) The nose reveals Port Mourant. With this profile, I always think of whisky (here Highlands). The alcohol stings and it also reminds me of aged grappa. On the palate, more intense than the nose suggests and surprisingly sweet. The finish is long, salty, and bone dry. It goes back towards whisky but this time smoky. The rum is definitely good and expressive but the PM profile is not for me.

I had expected a bit more from this release because of its age. I got a bit disappointed because the balance is not fully there and the ABV could have been better integrated. Still it's an intense profile (wood) and I like the nutts on the palate.

On the nose, earth, peat, wood, and herbs. On the palate, very earthy with peat, wood, and herbs. But also fruit like green apple and pear. Very oily. Long finish with herbs and wood. Not quite my thing. But definitely complex and interesting.

A very complex but somewhat wood-heavy palate. The aromas alternately remind me of a peaty whisky but also of grappa. Although I usually don't like whisky finishes, only peat and no smoke aromas are present. Overall the rum is very exciting due to a composition unknown to me so far.

Had liked with me in the SBS Tasting in the nose with the best. Is then but strongly dominated by wood on the palate, therefore rather tart and slightly bitter. You have to like
