Don Papa 10 Years
Opinion splits hard here. Some taste butterscotch, candied orange peel and creamy vanilla and call it a lovely sweet sipper; others taste "artificial orange" and sugar and say it barely reads as rum. Everyone agrees on one thing: it's very sweet, orange-and-vanilla forward, with a slight cola note. One taster nailed it as tasting like cola bottle gummies.

- Creamy, easy sipping

How does Don Papa 10 Years taste?
Aggregated from 413 community reviews.
Very sweet, candied orange-vanilla, liqueur-leaning Deeply divisive. Sweet-rum fans find candied orange, vanilla and butterscotch charming; purists call it artificial and syrupy. The real catch: it drinks more like an orange liqueur than a classic aged rum.

On The Rocks: On the nose it is very delightful with a deeper vanilla, caramel, butterscotch with some mild orange. It smells like Cola Bottle Gummies with its deeper unique composition. Taste reveals a deeper darker vanilla, caramel, butterscotch and a moderate orange peel with some treacle and spice and oak. It starts really sweet and rapidly shifts to a more neutral sweetness level allowing the little more bitterness from the treacle to shine. Finish is long with the sweetness giving way to a little more bitter taste of treacle with mild hints or orange. This feels like a heavier, deeper, darker cousin of the Don Papa Original. This is a very interesting rum but as a sipper the original might be slightly better overall due to the lasting treacle bitterness in the finish. Update: after the bottle had time to breath it has developed into a delcicious delightful sipper. I suggest letting the bottle breath to bring out the full potential of this wonderful rum. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose it smells very similar to unmixed, a very dark deep aroma. Taste is quite sweet but does not give way to any bitterness. Finish is short but delicious overall. This rum tastes like a more serious deep, dark rum… but the original tastes more light, fun and playful. They are similar but yet so different from each other. This rum would be better enjoyed mixed overall.

The wacky Easter calendar day 3 By far one of the 🤮🤮🤮🤮worst spiced flavored liquids in a long time... incredibly artificial, sweet sweet and sweet again and did I already write artificial? Boa nää this or that doesn't work at all and has nothing but nothing to do with "rum".

21.12.2025 Having a friend over who is not up to the heavier stuff, so we run through a few lighter rums. ---------- This is a pretty swet and vanilla heavy rum. The fruits are there as well, but it is just super super sweet. I tried it over vanilla icecream and that was a pretty good match.

7,5::On the nose, the rum is very thick and rich, like sweet molasses. It has a syrupy, sweet edge of banana and orange, like a syrup with cinnamon and other Christmas spices. One might think of an orange liqueur. On aeration, it's the molasses that spreads its caramel and coffee aromas, with a very sweet feeling. With the coffee, we have a milk chocolate orange, followed by some confectionery-style red fruit. The acidity also brings out fruit aromas such as maracuja and green banana, there are Christmas spices pairing with orange. 6,8:On the palate, the attack is sweet and very round at first, with orange liqueur, spices and coffee. The second wave of sugar and caramel is intense, it throws the tasting out of balance. The midpalate is warm and fruity with red fruits, banana, pear, dried fruits, ginger, clove and citrus. Thick, sweet vanilla soon fills the palate again, with a hint of exotic wood, there is some leather, the molasses is a bit bitter, vegetal. For a moment we might think of drinking Schweppes tonic water. 7:The finish is long, quite dry, spicy and woody, fruity with citrus fruits, grapefruit the strongest among them, the vanilla is still very consistent and sweet..

Artur's crazy Easter calendar day 3: He blindly slipped us such a blatant item. Was it cheeky, mean or accidental? Who knows. And I'm a complete idiot for giving the right tip. I now have to live with this shame in this forum 😀

Mit Cola, gerade so Trinkbar, ohne Cola genauso süß und nicht gut wie normaler don papa
Review by Dr. Helen Wu

So let's start with saying this: in another world this could be an underwhelming orange liqueur. But as it is, it is a fierce mix of sugar and artificial orange that somehow still manages to be very alcoholic. No, nothing to spit out, but really something you have to force a second glas into yourself...

Horrible brew that tastes only of sweetness.
