Depaz Chateau Depaz - Les 100 ans (2011 / 2013 / 2016) 2022

Sip this one neat or over a single cube — at 45% it's a gentle pour that a couple of tasters compared to a soft cognac. Expect apricot and yellow fruit, coconut, light caramel and a woody, faintly smoked backbone, then a dry, earthy finish with pencil-shavings and mineral notes. A well-made aged Martinique agricole, though a few found it a touch thin and short on complexity for a limited bottling.

The community says
  • Apricot & yellow fruit
  • Noble oak

A very inviting nose. Fruity, light barrel impact with some vanilla. Reminds me of a soft cognac. Taste has an alcoholic spiciness, spices, hay and some pencil shavings. The finish is balanced, dry, earthy with light mineral notes. All in all, a very nice Rhum Agricole.

Jolie nez, premier nez avec de la noix de coco, le caramel et la noix de pécan. C’est fumé, c’est grillé, le nez est prometteur. En bouche c’est un peu sec, il manque un peu de gourmandise. Longueur moyenne sur la noix. A regoûter

I like it a lot! Unfortunately, something is lost through the dilution. It's a little too thin for me and lacks some complexity. Blindly, I would have guessed a standard like the Depaz XO.

Depaz

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 140 Rums

Depaz is the rum born from a volcano. After Mount Pelee wiped out Saint-Pierre and his entire family in 1902, the orphaned Victor Depaz came back and planted cane on the very slopes that had killed them. The distillery he built in 1917 still stands at the foot of the volcano, and its agricole is among the most decorated on Martinique.
