Here's the surprise: at a full 65% this is still openly, unmistakably sweet. Expect dark caramel, vanilla, raisins and a bit of dark chocolate, with the alcohol running warm underneath. Several tasters were impressed the heat is this drinkable at cask strength, though one member found it "good god is that thing sweet." A sugared Dominican profile turned up to overproof.

I actually find this rum quite good. On the nose and palate a hint of caramel and vanilla. Additionally, a slightly spicy taste. Though I must say it tastes quite alcoholic and therefore the sweetness is bearable.

On the nose, quite sharp on the alcohol, with dripping caramel, vanillin, coffee forgotten in the machine, cocoa, and wood. Nothing exciting. The attack on the palate is warm and very sweet, like licking grandma’s prune and caramel tart. The finish is short and cloying. I don’t finish my pour. Not my thing.

7,6:There are slightly resinous, medicinal plant and powerful roasting notes on the nose, here are even some tropical fruits. The concentration of the molasses distillate offers a certain licorice, anise freshness, with almost menthol accents-like tooth paste scent, then come notes of coffee, leather and vanilla.Aeration changes the structure, the molasses has retained the licorice and sometimes medicinal notes, some caraway seeds come as well, by roasted spices, herbs. 8:On the palate rum is powerful, very round. The vegetal and resinous notes become delicious, like molasses candy with spices. Roasted nuts are tasty, with pecans leading the way, and they open the way to prunes, candied berries, apples. There are notes of leather. The caramelization aromas become more powerful in the middle and end of the mouth. 7,7:The finish is round and caramelized with intense, well-cooked and sticky molasses. 10.12.2025 Retastings and I like that they released it with a higher ABV. Seems like the long time in the sample glass has improved the profile a bit. ---------- Had a nice evening yesterday with friends, Patridom and Esclavo. Though this is a sweet rum the ABV is not that well integrated and that throws off the balance. Tried to let it rest for a very long time and it didn't really help.

On the nose naturally quite alcoholic, behind that some unusual herbs that remind me of an amaro like Cynar. On the palate then a sugary surprise, even with so many percent. The amaro associations continue, paired with PX.

Sample no.1 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. Wow this is a really nice rum. Sweet caramel, vanilla and raisins from my first impressions on the nose. Very warm and smooth palate with notes of dried fruits, tropical touches, spices and a hint of dark chocolate behind the sharpness of the 65% abv. Really nice and right up my alley!

Not the most pleasant to the nose, even after letting it breathe. The alcohol is still very present. Same on the palate, but leave it to breathe for 15 or 20 minutes and it changes dramatically. Less alcohol and more woodiness.

Sweet, the high alcohol content goes down a little, somewhat tangy on the nose, dark caramel, fruity. Creamy in the mouth, a little tabac. Sweet spiciness, becomes sharper on the finish.

A wonderful smell of sweets and dried fruits. The ABV can definitely be felt, and is very warming. The smelling notes wonderfully match the flavor. It’s the first overproof I’ve enjoyed so far.

Punchy, sweet, oaky, nutty, oily... and I could continue like that. But really, it is sweet but ABV is pulling it down tremendously. I like the woody notes supplemented with vanilla and sort of leather feel on the mouth. Better be careful with the abv, either use some drops of water or just mind the amount in the mouth, your palate can get quite numb. Oh yeah and the finish is short to medium long.

Smells sweet and fruity, vanilla and wood. The taste is similar with notes of orange, raisin, caramel, and vanilla. The alcohol pulls down the sweetness a bit and is not as sharp as one might think. The best I've tasted with this alcohol strength.

Educated mainly in Martinican and Guadeloupean agriculture, I discovered it with the Advent calendar. It's different. The impression that the alcohol and the toasted caramel are well dissociated, right from the nose. So yes, the alcohol is a little strong, but disassociated. On the palate, it's a bit similar, the 65dg never bothered me, but the toasted caramel or chocolate taste seems to stand next to the aromas, like old agricultural products that have simply been sweetened. In short, my first experience of molasses, a little simplistic and too sweet, even at 65dg. Pleasant in the end, but seems more constructed than my agricultural experience.

It is a stronger and flavorfully interesting rum of the Spanish type, which I think won't offend more experienced rum drinkers and can show beginners that stronger and sweeter rum is a really great thing for the Advent atmosphere.

Good god is that thing sweet. Like really sweet. A typical DomRep Rum but especially on the palate with a sugariness like pure crsytaline sugar. I am completely sure that has its fans. But really this one gives me an reaction to its sugar content. Not my style at all...
