This 1990 Hampden C<>H stays a fruity ester bomb — grilled pineapple, glue, nail polish, marzipan and a whiff of smoke and bacon fat. RumX Awards 2023 and tasted again 6 months later. Despite its age, the esters are very present without dominating. Butter, a nice acidity, a lemony side, overripe banana, grilled bacon, and yellow fruits make up this nose which remains balanced despite its complexity. The attack is lively and explosive with some fattiness (butter) that tempers the fire and fruits that fill the mouth. Yellow fruits (pear and apple) and young wood. The finish is long, elegant, with freshness. No flaws here, everything is clean and precise. The wood is perfectly integrated. The fruits remain until the very end. In the empty glass, you discover a new candy note and the wood is clearly noticeable. The favorite rum of this very high-level RumX selection.

Compared to extra 6296 (blackadder c<>h 90 abv 47%) spicier and more intense without overwhelming. Nose more defined and Jamaican. Slightly astringent, citrus. At the same time oily warm: "Smooth". Banana and glue. Aftertaste with a crescendo starting cozy warm and getting sharper, ending in a refreshing taste that opens the whole throat. Very tasty, but not over 300 tasty!!

Hampden bomb. There's a lot going on. Classic HD profile but at the top level. Intense like the HV C<>H. But very mild at the same time. Tastes very cool. Lush tropical fruits characterize the picture, with a slight minerality and a hint of smoke and bacon on the second sniff. Floral notes and fine wood, perfectly integrated for the age, underline the density and complexity. Lots of esters in the form of pineapple, citrus and almond. Really fun.

Very classic Hampden profile. The long aging juxtaposes the fruit esters with a nice counterpoint of wood, heavy sweetness and cooked-in fruit, making for a very round and balanced flavor. Excellent bottling.

Let's see if the high expectations are achieved...The first thing that comes to me from the glass is pineapple marzipan and a sweetness associated with it. The other Hampden markers like glue and ester are not missing. The alcohol is only noticeable at the beginning, after 40min I can smell deep into the glass without the alcohol interfering. In the background I find a faint smoky note and fresh white wine. Could I smell it for hours!On the palate I experience the great effect that the rum 1-2 seconds "lunges" to then throw itself with force on the taste buds and provoke salivation. The rum remains present for a long time but the intensity quickly decreases. It remains a dry mouthfeel and light smoke.The price of a bottle is another matter.

Nice Hampden with surprisingly little wood for 32y in the barrel. Overall, a little too much acidity for me personally, but still delicious!🙏 However, I like the slightly younger vintage much better in comparison.

Excellent 90s .... mMn he can not keep up with its predecessor but quite.... Fruity ' Annas, Mango ... Papaya ... Ester comes despite the age still good with .... everything overall coherent but still a bit too weak for me. Finish then with decent wood note and slight bitterness. A great HD ...the price I still can not disregard here.

Very high expectations are not disappointed here. Despite the high age, wood notes remain in the background and a HD Esterbombe as you want them not only dance here on the tongue but flow directly when you open the bottle through the air.

#4669 24.03.2024 Sitting at home relaxing well knowing that I'll be off next week 😊 Nose Intense, fresh, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, overripe, banana, light mint. Palate Intense Fresh, fruity, citrus, dried fruit, light licorice, light floral, light salty, spicy, light roasted wood. Finish Long and warm, light roasted wood, citrus, fruity, overripe, light mint, plum. The empty glass has some light caramel, herbs and light tobacco. Price can be argued but this is a very good Hampden, yummy.

Again a special drop. Very old, but Continental. Time passes high Ester HD's felt without a trace. The DNA is not lost, but everything seems a bit more set and rounded. I'll be honest: To have this great taste, you don't need to spend 400€ and you don't need >30 yo. That's just the great thing about HD!nose: intense and funky. Lots of esters, but no longer pungent. Sour-sweet pineapple along with ripe yellow lemon right up front. Behind that, marzipan and subtle honey. Fine stickiness and the slight vinegar note always found in HD. This is framed by ripe banana. 91Palate: intense, astringent, esters, tart sweet pineapple and proper umami. I like that. Wood comes in discreetly. 89Tasty, as expected.

Classic Hampden profile on the nose. Marzipan, pineapple, honey and marzipan come to the fore. Vanilla and Esther are then added on the palate. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Great Hampden.

Top notch 1990 C<>H! On the nose, an exquisite balance between tropical fermented fruit, vanilla, and a distinct sweetness (towards jam, stewed fruit). Moreover, very mild for the marque. On the palate sweet-ripe pineapple, candied fruit and apple vinegar, which also dominates the finish. I really like the 32 years in (continental) barrel here! It remains interesting to see how the 1990 vintage continues to develop. Has it reached its zenith?

Typical Hampden profile. Perfectly balanced, the 32 years in the barrel are completely restrained. A slight animal note and smoky, which I like. Very astringent and furry in the mouth. I have my problems with that... 😂 Long, spicy finish that warms from the inside. So, a Hampden again after a long time. A dream for lovers of aged rums, so I can definitely understand the >90 points. But it's not my type. 😎😎😎😎

This is likely the longest aged rum I have had the chance to taste. I expected there to be more wood but it managed to keep it well integrated and in balance here. The nose presents tropical fruits, primarily pineapple, esters a plenty, glue, funk, nougat, nail polish, some smoke - I could smell this one endlessly. On the palate you get an initial intensity that settles enough to give you a similar burst of balanced complexity. Solvents, funk, esters, overripe pineapple and fruits, barrel, spice and a pretty high level of acidity. This rum is more interesting than it is enjoyable in terms of being something I would want to drink frequently but hard not to be impressed with how much is going on here and yet how well it’s all kept in check.

Textbook C<>H from 1990 - the nose is funky, fruity with a lot of ripe fruits (not overripe!), glue a bit of nail polish and a great woody influence. On the palate is is sweeter then expected but also quite dry, even astringent. Loafs of pineapple, grilled pineapple, banana and banana peel. The nail polish and glue are there but integrated in the fruit basket. The finish is long and warm, banana, vanilla and some wood. When the funkiness leaves the bananas (fryed in butter) stayed.

Very classic, mature developed Hampden. On the nose lots of fruit esters, plus stewed fruits, wood and a heavy, warm sweetness. On the palate round and balanced with a good balance between fruit, spice and cask. The long maturation brings depth without overloading the rum. Really coherent and on a high level.

Unmistakably a Hampden. The estery fruit bomb is already clearly noticeable on the nose. It then explodes again in the mouth and you can feel the power of the almost 55%. If you like a lot of esters, you won't be disappointed here.

A Hampden bomb that stands out from other 90s due to a truly perfect alcohol integration. Still, I find others stronger in taste. The wood for the long aging is excellently integrated. The esters are so strong on the nose that they come across a bit like vinegar.

Superb, fresh fruity nose with a hint of smoky bacon, buttery fat, pear and fully-integrated wood. Exceptional freshness and airy fruitiness, the opposite of woody, encaustic notes.

Nose: vinegar, fruit, glue, violets. It all blends together and is very well balanced. A tangy side with kiwi. Essential oil too. I have more generic terms that come to mind and it's hard to get out the aromas themselves, but the overall scent is crazy. I've got vanilla too, probably from the wood. At first, the alcohol was quite present, but now it's faded quite a bit. Taste: the typical hampden tasting pattern remains, fresh/acidic, then greedy with a little yeast and fruit, then bitter with nuts. On the second palate, there's a touch more woodiness, with tobacco also coming through, making you salivate. Finish: nutty, tobacco bitterness.

- Nose: Violet, kiwi, grapefruit zest, vinegar, iodized, wood takes up a lot of space. Essential oil. Vanilla. Mango. Frangipane - palate: fruit, floral, vinegar, wood. Torrefied and smoky. Tobacco, cigar box. - finish: cigar, tobacco, astringent, fruit. Very good rum, quite dark, lacks a little gourmandise.
