Toasted coconut, vanilla and a burnt-bourbon-cask edge lead this 11-year Foursquare from The Colours of Rum, with dark chocolate and a little pineapple underneath. At 59.3% the alcohol is loud, and several tasters found it thin and a touch too sweet for the strength. Classic Barbados flavors, but many call it a fairly plain, "not very representative" Foursquare that needs time to open up.

The nose is very bourbon-heavy, no wonder - the rum matured exclusively in bourbon barrels. After a while, light notes of white wine are added. Very similar on the palate. There is a certain intensity due to the almost 60% alcohol, but unfortunately not many aromas are conveyed besides bourbon, vanilla and roasted notes. Overall good but pale, alcoholic and not very representative for Foursquare. Practically no significant difference to Barbados No. 18.

#4732 20.05.2024 Relaxing at home with a few samples. Nose Fresh, intense, fruity, wood, faint roasted, pineapple, vanilla, faint chocolate. Palate Medium intense, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, banana, medium spicy, light dry, faint chocolate. Finish Medium long, wood, fruits, pineapple, light chocolate, spice. The empty glass has stronger chocolate and light nutts. Needs to rest for a good while in order to settle and release all its flavours.

Got a sample of this Foursquare rum for free from RumX. It’s a mix of column and pot still distilled rum aged for 11 years in an ex-bourbon cask, 5 years in the tropics and 6 years continentally whereafter it’s bottled in 264 bottles at 59,3%. Overall an interesting and elegant Foursquare rum that’s a little different from their own bottlings, maybe because of the continental aging.

Nice FSQ... Foursquare is a distillery from Barbados producing amazing rums for everyday sipping. It's a rum especially appreciated by rum lovers who are fed up with sugar and are looking for a smooth, sweet rum full of coconut, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Simply pleasant and not aggressive flavors.

Good quality but doesn't blow you away. Unfortunately a bit watery in taste; Typical Barbados notes come through. A touch too sweet. The finish then has a burning sharpness that doesn't want to fit the taste at all

Quite alcoholic nose with some vanilla and coconut. On the palate, the alcohol is still too present. This is again joined by the typical coconut and vanilla notes. Rather disappointing Foursquare.

Nose goes to orange (No 18) versus blue (No 17). Palate the other way round. Both significantly below the regular 2010 ECS, however.

After the Plenipotenzario from the Advent calendar, I thought to myself: Ha, Foursquare can taste good after all. This one confirms my old prejudices and once again offers the usual boring profile with coconut, bourbon, vanilla and alcohol. I'd rather have a (good) bourbon. Certainly interesting for FS lovers but rather meaningless for me. A little weaker than the No 18 tasted at the same time
