CoR Foursquare Barbados No. 18 2010
"Not near Foursquare's own bottlings," as one taster put it — and that's the honest read here. Expect bourbon, vanilla, toffee and burnt sugar on a light body, with the 61% alcohol sitting more forward than integrated. Several found it close to the No. 17 and a bit flat for the distillery. Fans of ex-bourbon Barbados profiles will get what they want; others may find it plain.

The nose is very bourbon-heavy, small wonder - the rum matured 5 years in a bourbon barrel. From the other 5 years in the whiskey barrel is not much to feel - was obviously not an Islay whiskey. On the palate very similar. A certain intensity is there due to the approx. 61% alcohol but unfortunately not many flavors are transported besides bourbon, vanilla and roasted notes.Overall ok but for Foursquare pale, alcoholic and even less representative than No 17 (probably because of the storage in the whiskey barrel, which rarely suits me).Practically without significant difference to Barbados No. 17.One more note on the storage in the whiskey barrel: What prevents the bottler to disclose in what kind of barrel the rum was stored for the last 5 years? Please complete transparency!

10.02.2023 A nice CoR tasting with a good friend. Colour Light in colour. Nose Light wood, faint roasted, alcoholic, fruits, spice, faint chocolate, faint floral. Palate Warm, light wood, alcoholic, fruits, faint citrus, light pineapple, spice, light chocolate, light bourbon. Finish Medium to long, light wood, light roasted, spice, warm, spice, faint chocolate, fruits. The ABV is not that well integrated even when rested for a good while.

Got this sample for free from RumX. It’s a mix of column and pot still distilled rum that’s aged for 11 years, first for 5 years tropical and then 6 years continental. It has spent 5 years in an ex-bourbon barrel and 5 years in an ex-whisky barrel. Finally it was bottled in 259 bottles at 61,1%. Overall an OK rum, but with too strong alcoholic taste, that’s not near Foursquare’s own bottlings.

Foursquare is a distillery from Barbados producing amazing rums for everyday sipping. It's a rum especially appreciated by rum lovers who are fed up with sugar and looking for a smooth, sweet rum full of coconut, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. Simply pleasant and not aggressive flavors.

Is this actually a sister cask of No 17? Smells very similar, a little less cheesy. Taste very sweet and initially sharply alcoholic. Also in the finish remains a burning sweetness and connects with cardboard.

After the Plenipotenzario from the advent calendar, I thought: Ha, Foursquare can actually taste good. This one reinforces my old prejudices and offers the usual boring profile with coconut, bourbon, vanilla and alcohol. I'd prefer a (good) bourbon. Certainly interesting for FS lovers but rather meaningless for me. Scores slightly better than the No 17 tasted in parallel.

Nose goes to orange (No 18) versus blue (No 17). Palate the other way round. Both significantly below the regular 2010 ECS, however.

Blind, I would have said less proof than the Ed. 17 on the nose. Otherwise very similar profile. Stronger in the finish.

Not at all as similar to Foursquare 2009 as I thought, but very good one!

Very alcoholic, a bit of wood, light vanilla.
