Nose: overall less mature and with lower depth. Feels like the cask didn’t do as much work versus other bottlings. Palate: Again a bit flat comparatively. Well balanced wit an nice sweetness. However, not very exciting. ——— For the two CoRs side by side: No2’s nose is a bit more open and vibrant vs. No3. On the palate I prefer No2 with a bit more fruits while No3 presents itself more dark and woody.

Got this sample for free from RumX. It’s a column distilled rum distilled in 1998 at the Bellevue estate in Bass-Terre that produces Rhum Damoiseau and therefore not to be confused with the Bellevue distillery in Marie Galante. It’s aged for 23 years, of which 6 years is made in the tropics and the rest continentally whereafter it’s bottled in 252 bottles at 54,3%. It’s not clear if the distillate is a blend of rum made from cane juice and molasses, but I believe so cause there’s lots of rum from this distillery that is. Anyway I’m pretty sure that its not an Agricole. Overall a rum that have great aromas, but which tastes don’t live up to the it.

Un rhum dégusté au German Rum Festival à Berlin in 2024. Un nez expressif, avec du végétal et un léger menthol mais aussi un côté plus sombre avec du vieux bois, des épices, des herbes sèches et des fruits secs. La bouche est plutôt vive, alcoolique, beaucoup plus unidimensionnelle que le nez. Les côtés sombres, épicés et même pimentés dominent, les fruits et le menthol sont au second rang. La finale est plutôt longue, et finit sur l’amertume du bois mais, elle aussi, est plutôt unidimensionnelle.

Guadeloupe from 1998, actually almost worth a blind purchase. Somehow this bottling is neither fish nor meat. Slightly woody with a subtle sweetness and dark and light fruits. The finish is short and the rum seems incomplete. Second tasting: - 4 points Thanks for the sample.

Edit: Three Guadeloupe '98s tested against each other. My ranking today 1. Milano Rum Fest 2. the Rum Cask 3. Colours of Rum A good drop, elegant in the mouth with a pleasant warmth. I found it very good when I tried it for the first time. Unfortunately, it could not prevail against its two competitors in the crosstasting, although this is a very good 3rd place.

Shopbesuch Rhum Attitude Brüssel Mai 2025. Als Sample mitgenommen. Schöner Tagesabschluß. Ein sehr alter Guadeloupe. Ist sehr holzig und kräuterig in der Nase. Am Gaumen holzig und würzig, und das es ein Agricole ist, lässt sich auch nicht abstreiten. Big thanks to Rhum Attitude Brüssel for having me today :-)

#4178 This is a very nice Bellevue. Medium fruity and pretty well balanced. Spicy and warm palate with a long finish. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some chocolate ans smoky notes. Would have loved it at an even higher ABV 😊

Tasted at the 12th GRF, in the masterclass at Colours of Rum: I like Guadeloupe a lot and I like this bottling too. Restrained, sweet nose with a slight herbal touch. Quite a bit bitter on the palate, woody, but overall very tasty. Behind other 98s, but a nice bottling for me!

Second tasting: I like the beautiful fruitiness and spiciness better than last time. However, the alcohol is too prominent for "very good". (+2) Tasted together with Colous of Rum Guadeloupe No. 3. The nose of both is almost identical. This one is a touch less powerful. On the palate, this one is a shade stronger. But it lacks corners and edges. It doesn't really convince me, I've had more interesting 1998 Guadeloupe in my glass. Both bottlings seem very similar to me.

A nice nose, spice, herbs and light caramel at the end. The mouth is easy going for the strength an brings some complexity, with burnished leather, wood and some flamed orange. Finish is medium with light spices and not quite as good integration as the mouth. It’s a solid rum if not a little one dimensional, better of the two colour of rum Bellevue’s for me

Pleasant, some anis & herbs on the palate. Not so well integrated. //second tasting: like the fruits and creaminess on the palate, but the harahness from the alcohol makes it rather unpleasant. Was hoping for a better experience after the rushed fair tasting
