A rewarding Bellevue with a fairly mild funkiness but a firm medicinal side on the palate.

Got this sample for free from RumX. It’s a column distilled rum distilled in 1998 at the Bellevue estate in Bass-Terre that produces Rhum Damoiseau and therefore not to be confused with the Bellevue distillery in Marie Galante. It’s aged for 23 years, of which 6 years is made in the tropics and the rest continentally whereafter it’s bottled in 249 bottles at 53,9%. It’s not clear if the distillate is a blend of rum made from cane juice and molasses, but I believe so cause there’s lots of rum from this distillery that is. Anyway I’m pretty sure that its not an Agricole. Overall an round and elegant rum that have great aromas, and that’s in opposite to edition 2 lives up to the aromas in its taste.

16.05.2023 Normally I don't do tastings during the week because I have to go to work pretty early the next day. This blind tasting just stating "Colours of Rum" just tickled my brain to say "book and participate" and I didn't regret it. It wasn't only a great experience, but we had a blast of an evening with many new faces around the table. The price matches what you get with this release. Pretty fresh profile with nice fruit and floral notes. I really like the smoky touch to the nose and finish. The palate is medium dry and oily with good balance between ABV and wood. The finish is very long and warm/spicy. Very nice curtains in the glass.

A very nice one from Bellevue and, off course, The Colours of Rum. I like the dark old agricole notes coming through the whole tasting experience, being dominant mostly in the finish and on the nose. There's also some salted caramel, dried fruits, but also fresh tropical fruits.

Very pleasant aromatics. Roasty, leather and some cotton candy. Fruit is rather restrained. On the palate creamy, spicy and a heavy sweetness. On the palate then rather dry and a very slight bitterness. I like it very much!

No2’s nose is a bit more open and vibrant vs. No3. On the palate I prefer No2 with a bit more fruits while No3 presents itself more dark and woody.

Drier than the nose would suggest.

Together with Colous of Rum Guadeloupe No. 2 tasted.nose is almost identical in both. This is a touch stronger.Does not convince me so right, as I had more interesting 1998 Guadeloupe in the glass. Both bottlings appear with very similar.

I slightly favor this one compared to the No.2 as it’s a touch more spicy.

Less significant floral taste, almost no fruits, more grass
Review by Henry Davies
A lot of medicinal notes in this one. The nose is interesting and enticing, light sugar and some polish. Mouth is greedy and layered, papaya and brown sugar, with some plum and nuts. The finish is a bit thin, some more Agricole notes and light raisin but again not as complex as I hoped. Solid rum and clear complexity
