CoR Bellevue Guadeloupe No. 3 1998
Made for people who chase old Bellevue and dark, dry agricole-leaning notes, this 1998 leans woody and medicinal more than fruity. Expect burnt brown sugar, leather, a smoky, almost hydrocarbon edge, some vanilla, and stone fruit (peach, cherry) that only shows up late. Several tasters call it elegant but a touch quiet next to the parallel No.2, which they often prefer on the palate.

Got this sample for free from RumX. It’s a column distilled rum distilled in 1998 at the Bellevue estate in Bass-Terre that produces Rhum Damoiseau and therefore not to be confused with the Bellevue distillery in Marie Galante. It’s aged for 23 years, of which 6 years is made in the tropics and the rest continentally whereafter it’s bottled in 249 bottles at 53,9%. It’s not clear if the distillate is a blend of rum made from cane juice and molasses, but I believe so cause there’s lots of rum from this distillery that is. Anyway I’m pretty sure that its not an Agricole. Overall an round and elegant rum that have great aromas, and that’s in opposite to edition 2 lives up to the aromas in its taste.

Mhm, I've already had a few '98 Bellevue in my glass, but this one can't really keep up with the others. Basically not bad, but when drinking it I have the feeling that it lacks a certain kick and makes it boring.

Very pleasant aromatics. Roasty, leather and some cotton candy. Fruit is rather restrained. On the palate creamy, spicy and a heavy sweetness. On the palate then rather dry and a very slight bitterness. I like it very much!

16.05.2023 Normally I don't do tastings during the week because I have to go to work pretty early the next day. This blind tasting just stating "Colours of Rum" just tickled my brain to say "book and participate" and I didn't regret it. It wasn't only a great experience, but we had a blast of an evening with many new faces around the table. The price matches what you get with this release. Pretty fresh profile with nice fruit and floral notes. I really like the smoky touch to the nose and finish. The palate is medium dry and oily with good balance between ABV and wood. The finish is very long and warm/spicy. Very nice curtains in the glass.

Together with Colous of Rum Guadeloupe No. 2 tasted.nose is almost identical in both. This is a touch stronger.Does not convince me so right, as I had more interesting 1998 Guadeloupe in the glass. Both bottlings appear with very similar.

8,2:On the nose, varnish, polish, tar, intense, toasted wood/oak notes like burnt sugar, caramel, chocolate, leather, meaty, smoky, floral molasses, briny olive, fruity, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, winterly feeling comes out, spicy with allspice, ginger, with pastry, molasses is herbaceous, tropical fruits join. 8:On the palate, toasted wood notes like brown sugar, cocoa, nuts, caramel, later bubble gum, meaty, spicy with allspice, resinous, burnt, barrel impact is obvious, oily, dry, crisp, briny olive, fresh, herbaceous, molasses, grassy with hay, dark with licorice, sweet with honey, fermented tropical fruits, funky, red, dried fruits like figs, plums, medicinal with petrol, tar. 7,9:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, with toasted/charred wood notes like burnt sugar, coffee, sourdough bread, bacon, spicy, rubber is burnt, chemical hints, fruity with dried, citrus fruits, molasses is sweet with honey, floral, vegetal..

No2’s nose is a bit more open and vibrant vs. No3. On the palate I prefer No2 with a bit more fruits while No3 presents itself more dark and woody.

I slightly favor this one compared to the No.2 as it’s a touch more spicy.

A very nice one from Bellevue and, off course, The Colours of Rum. I like the dark old agricole notes coming through the whole tasting experience, being dominant mostly in the finish and on the nose. There's also some salted caramel, dried fruits, but also fresh tropical fruits.

Drier than the nose would suggest.

Less significant floral taste, almost no fruits, more grass

Trade fair tasting GRF 2026 at the booth. So short review. Color light amber. Nose rather unspectacular. Slight caramel, slight spice. ABV noticeable. On the palate clearly better and really tasty. Agricole notes and sugarcane sweetness. Plus spiciness and slight wood. Well balanced. Finish on these aromas. Really like it and worth considering.

I really love the molasses-agricole blend... there's burnt brown sugar, a slight elegant woody bitterness that almost leans towards hydrocarbons with the smoky side. There's also a fairly present vanilla. The fruits arrive at the end of the mouth and become more and more present with opening (stone fruits: peach, cherry)

Beautiful floral nail polish nose. Taste takes some getting used to, like a gas station.

Vintage 1998. I rate it 8.4 out of 10, very good rum.
Review by Henry Davies
A lot of medicinal notes in this one. The nose is interesting and enticing, light sugar and some polish. Mouth is greedy and layered, papaya and brown sugar, with some plum and nuts. The finish is a bit thin, some more Agricole notes and light raisin but again not as complex as I hoped. Solid rum and clear complexity

Huh? Sugary sweet on the palate; I didn't expect that. Unfortunately, also quite unexciting for me...
