Got this sample for free from RumX. This rum comes from the since year 2000 closed Uitvlugt Distillery and the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still which today is moved to the Diamond Distillery, the only distillery in Guyana nowadays. It was distilled in 1997 and was first tropical aged for 2 years in an former bourbon barrel whereafter it was continentally aged for 21 years in an former cognac barrel. Finally it was bottled in 2022 in 262 bottles at 53,4%. Overall an elegant and round rum where the taste of grapefruit dominates.

Definitely disappointing, mint, olive and fish-flavored aftertaste

The nose immediately refers to the Port Mourant double wooden pot still. The aromas of baked apple please me.On the palate then a lot of sweetness and barrel notes.Overall no firecracker but still elegant and some to discover.

Big frustration for this rum from Guyana. A rather pleasant, straightforward attack with notes of prunes and a disappointing finish, giving way to poorly mastered smoky notes.

Fair rating This is a soft and very spicy Uitvlugt that gently unfolds its aromas on the nose and palate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, allowing it to be enjoyed in a relaxed manner.

Molassesy, dirty, woody and chocolaty. 2nd tasting: Still dirty notes, wood, very alcoholic today. Doesn't convince me at all.

Tasted after another, younger Guyana in a line-up. I found this rum dominated by roundness and even sweetness, which surprised me for this destination. Despite its age, the woodiness did not dominate. Lacks a bit of omplexity, but I like how easy it is to drink.

Port mourant with baked apple, nice sweetness on the palate and light grappa note when sipping. Tasty and without disturbing ... but also nothing special
Review by TheRhumhoe
A somewhat timid rum. The nose offers a fresh, herbal fragrance (tea) and rather pronounced spices (baked apple, chili pepper, aniseed). A rather light but dry woodiness warms the nostrils with the spices. Fruits (citrus) are rather timid. A characteristic Port Mourant profile, but one that struggles to stand out. On the palate, the structure lacks harmony and distinctive aromas. The alcohol is not as well integrated as it could be, coupled with woody notes, leather and spices (chili, cooking spices) that besiege the palate. Caramel, molasses, dark chocolate, dried fruit and tea herbs make for a typical Port Mourant blend, but one that's a bit wacky and unstable on the palate. The finish is earthy, with notes of thyme, toasted wood, spices (aniseed) and dried fruit. The alcohol is back, but with a dryness and bitterness to boot. Sometimes fine and dull, sometimes warm and intense, this rather sparse Port Mourant is not so easy to pin down, as if it were searching for its identity between warm, gourmand, dry and bitter notes.

Really mediocre uitvlugt. Mostly continental and it really shows. Lacks depth, fullness, roundness, burnt notes and pretty much most things that make demeraras interesting. Don’t be fooled by the seemingly high age, the price to quality here is terrible.
Review by DomM
Feels significantly thinner and more flat vs TRC. Alcohol is much more present in this bottling at the same time though.

A little too flat to my taste.

10.02.2023 A nice CoR tasting with a good friend. Colour Light in colour. Nose Round, light wood, fruits, faint leather, light plum, faint mint, light apple. Palate Round, medium spicy, light wood, light roasted, naturally sweet, grapefruit, medium dry, faint licorice, light dried fruit. Finish Medium to long, light wood, medium spicy, light licorice, faint mint, dried fruit.

Really mediocre. Lacks depth, richness, roundness, burnt notes and pretty much most of the things that make demerara interesting. Nose already nice and fruity like apple or something. The color of the rum also seems very artificial. I would have expected more for its age

Premier Colours of Rum.
