Guyana geeks who chase old Port Mourant will feel at home here, though this one breaks the mould a bit. Marzipan is the surprise star — stone-fruit sweetness alongside cocoa, black tea, licorice and dry French-oak. Notably less bitter and less molasses-heavy than the mark usually runs. At 68.7% it's hot and punchy; a few drops of water bring it down to sipping ease.

Got this sample for free from RumX. This rum comes from the since year 2000 closed Uitvlugt Distillery and the Port Mourant Double Wooden Pot Still which today is moved to the Diamond Distillery, the only distillery in Guyana nowadays. It was distilled in 1991 and was first tropical aged for 10 years in an former bourbon barrel whereafter it was continentally aged for 19 years in an ex- French oak Cask. Finally it was bottled in 2022 in 277 bottles at 68,7%. Overall an elegant, bittersweet and surprisingly round rum for its high ABV.

Second tasting: Uiuiui is the sharp on the palate, no wonder at almost 70%!But convinced me no longer so, since I know better Uitvlugt Rums(-2)Very interesting nose, similar to cherry liqueur and quite closed. On the palate very intense with a nice marzipan note, cocoa and barrel notes.The finish harmonizes with the impression on the palate and is not too bitter.Good intensity without being too bitter or woody. I like very much.

Whisky Live Paris 2025. A nice woody nose but not excessive, prunes, lots of prunes. A little spicy, herbal touch and red fruits. The palate is darker, only the prune stands out among the fruits from the nose. The wood is significant but finely integrated. A spicy note develops at the end of the palate. The finish is long, elegant, and well-balanced.

#4186 This is a really nicely balanced and naturally sweet rum with good ABV integration. I like the mix of fruits with the wood and light roasted notes. Draws really nice curtains in the glass. The empty glass is nice and has some marzipan and earthy notes to it.

A Uitvlugt / Port Mourant in raw strength. The nose is dominated by spices (chilli, vanilla), but with a strong cask influence and notes of coffee and chocolate. Aromatic herbs try to make inroads with caramel and dried fruit, but alcohol vapors are not far behind. The nose is dry, surprisingly pleasant, light and round. The palate brings the fruit to the brink of extinction, while dark Guyana notes reign supreme. It's salty, spicy, cocoa-like, woody, bitter, with licorice and aniseed as heavy artillery. Tea recalls a few herbal notes, but it's the marzipan that surprises and resists the rest of the profile with its sugary sweetness. The profile remains intense, very powerful with alcohol, which is nevertheless not all that badly integrated. The finish prolongs this dry, warm, woody, spicy, roasted and cocoa-like character for a long time. Caramel and burnt sugar still add a slight roundness, while tea and dried fruit enrich the aromatic spectrum. A demanding but well-mastered rum that requires a little patience and practice to be fully appreciated.

Haven't tasted an infinite number yet, but this Port Mourant is like none I've had so far. Marzipan stone fruit notes like a very good bourbon in the nose and on the palate. Licorice and other typical markers rather far in the background and the tea in the finish is hardly bitter. I like it very much. Super accessible.

The cognac cask adds some additional fruity notes and roundness on the nose which works pretty well to balance the woody notes from its long maturation. Nice intensity on the palate given some extra ABV in this bottling. However, alcohol integration is not 100% satisfactory. I still like the bottling - nice touch from the cask.

Tasted on the 12th GRF: Great KFM, somewhat atypical since very little bitterness - but I like that! Molasses yes, but not in the extreme as one is accustomed to this Mark! For me personally the best KFM, but that's my personal taste!

Difficile d'évaluer ce genre de rhums impressionnants sur le papier dans un salon ou tu enchaînes. C'est un vieux port mourant c'est certain (et écrit dessus 😉). C'est bon et très bien fait. Après ce n'est pas un rhum coup de coeur ou même "waoww" pour moi.

This is a delicious rum, quite subtle. I expected probably more from a 1991 Uitvlugt but it is quite a remarkable delicacy. The 68.7% gives quite the punch and pepper spices in the palate, otherwise it's mostly a pastry with custard for me, both in the nose and the palate. The finish is quite long with some licorice after taste for me. I'd recommend trying, although not sure I'd recommend buying. But to each their own 😉

Lots of marzipan on the palate, pleasant woody note. A black tea note on the finish. Generally rather little bitterness. This is quite harmonious, but the alcohol is not particularly well integrated.

Après un peu plus de 10 ans en fût ex-bourbon, il a passé 19 ans dans un fût de chêne français, pour un vieillissement entièrement continental. Résultat : une belle intensité, sans excès d’amertume ni de bois. J’aime beaucoup — et tant mieux, car j’en ai une bouteille à la cave !

Un de premiers Guyana pour moi. Le nez est très complexe, la signature aromatique fondue, atypique pour moi, sur des notes de fruits exotiques mêlées de poivre, de torréfaction, un peu miellé, mais exubérant et tellement dur et plaisant à décrypter. La bouche surprend encore une fois par une trame aromatique élégante, fondue, dévoilant un fruit tropical mûr et gourmand, des notes d élevage complexes et en soutien du fruit, des épices, du camphre. La dégustation m' a perdu de par la complexité et la signature aromatique particulière de ce rhum, ,mais c'est le genre de dégustation où on est content de se perdre et de se laisser porter. Très bon.

Yeah yeah, the first sniff makes you happy (even if it is still pungent in the nose at first). A little cardboard is joined by herbal black tea notes. Taste: very strong, herbal, tea-like and surprisingly sweet. A little musty. Overall, the taste cannot keep up with the smell.
