CoR Clarendon Jamaica No. 13 1997
The pale color throws people first — 24 years in the barrel, yet it looks young, because this Clarendon aged in Europe rather than the tropics. That means gentle cask influence and a light, orange-forward pot still: yellow fruit, mild ester, a little clove and citrus, sweet up front then dry on the finish. One taster even mistook it blind for an Irish whisky.

Light, orange-forward easy Jamaican sipper Most find it a mild, round, easy Clarendon sipper full of orange and light fruit. A few note the dilution left it thin and unusually light for a 24-year-old.

Second tasting: better and not as light as I remembered. Since one must not be deceived by the pale color. 1First, the pale color amazes, for about 24 years in the barrel has not colored much.On the nose, however, there is no surprise: fine fruit esters stream towards me.On the palate much more intense, sweet, spicy, woody and dry.The finish is quite short and dry. After a break, the fruit esters flash again. These light Clarendons do not really fit into my Beuteschema 😉

I find the 97 Monymusk very good. This is already significantly diluted, but thereby a quasi easy sipper. I like it really well!

Got this sample for free from RumX. It’s a pot still Clarendon MMW distilled in 1997 whereafter it’s continentally aged for 24 years in an ex-rum oak barrel before bottled in 192 bottles at 49,2%. Overall a very round and smooth rum with lots of orange taste.
Review by DomM
Not bad this one - pleasant and very orange forwards.
Review by Serge
Really very bright for its age. The difference from the tropically stored release colleague could not be more drastic. This one is bright, floral, mild esters, yellow fruit...good, but worlds from the 1995 no.10 with tropical storage.

Very fruity on the nose, but then rather dry on the palate.

Quite sweet, mild and thin overall. Blindly I would never have guessed Clarendon but rather an Irish whisky. Delicious but a little irritating when you taste such an old Clarendon. But no wonder with 100% continental maturation.
