Sip it neat and you get a soft, syrupy Costa Rican in the classic Spanish style: vanilla, caramel, roasted nuts and coffee, a little toasted oak and some raisin on the light, linear finish. One taster caught a slightly artificial caramel edge, and a few note it works nicely in cola too. Pleasant and easy rather than deep — the flavors fade fast.

7,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is a mix of roasted notes, mostly well-toasted nuts, then coffee and toasted wood. Some fruits with syrup cover the wood with an acidity and sweetness. On aeration, there is an American oak, with vanilla, coconut, tobacco and soft wood notes. 7,5:On the palate, the rum is light, with fruit notes quickly overlaid by a vanilla.It is soft and thick, coated. The nuts are similar as roastedness seen on the nose, close to caramelized nougat.There are some dried fruits, bourbon ageing ones. 7,2:The finish is light, medium long, woody, with some spice, quite sweet, caramel a bit artificial...

The nose is sweet, fruity, woody and floral. The taste is what the nose reveals. The finish is additionally distinguished by slight bitterness. Works well in cola but a bit too expensive for that. Can also be drunk neat.

A rum from Costa Rica in pure Hispanic style. The nose is very soft, almost faded under a caramelized, vanilla, woody, and roasted influence. Some dried and candied fruits stand out but don't quite manage to take up space in the nostrils. The attack on the palate is light and sweet. Beneath the syrupy texture hide notes of coffee, chocolate, nuts, and vanilla resting on a woody base leaning towards roasted notes. It's light, soft, and linear. The finish returns to the roasted notes of coffee, nuts, chocolate, caramel, and vanilla wood. The flavors last only a brief moment on this light profile. A simple, basic rum, good in its range but nothing extraordinary either.

The Centenario 1985 surprisingly beautifully combines the soft style of Costa Rica with whisky influences. Dried fruits, caramel, and vanilla meet cherry, forest berries, coffee, and spicy oak. A fine smokiness ensures that the sweetness doesn't take over. I especially like the contrast between creamy rum and dry Scotch spice – approachable, but with clearly more edges and corners than the typical Centenario.

Classic CENTENARIO, nose and palate indulgent with even that candy touch. Can please or displease, a matter of taste! Short finish with pomegranate.
