How does Levy Lane C.A.D.C Tamosi Venezuela 2005 taste?

Aggregated from 15 community reviews.

Big, dry, tannic Venezuelan powerhouse For experienced palates: a dry, powerful 17‑year Venezuelan single cask at 61.9%. RumX members talk about thick woody caramel, tannins, coffee, dark chocolate and spices, somewhere between armagnac and bourbon in style.

Perfect for

Bourbon and armagnac drinkers or dry-rum fans who enjoy high‑ABV, oak‑driven, bitter‑chocolate profiles with plenty of spice and a long finish.

Less suitable for

Those sensitive to high ABV, looking for soft sweetness or fruity, easygoing Spanish-style rums; the dry tannins and wood bitterness can feel aggressive.

Venezuela is sort of an underdog in the whisky community but the blenders/bottlers know what's up. They make a terrific unsweetened Spanish styled yet molasses based rum. This is a big flavoured single cask Venezualan rum. French oak + rum barrel aged. Heavy stuff. Nose: French (acidic) oak. Leather. Vanilla. Sour cherry's. Burnt sugar. Heavy all together Taste: Boom! Big flavours. Thick syrupy woody caramelic bitter/dry spices. Not unlike a strong armagnac or bourbon. Cinnamon. Don't get much fruit, lot's a (wood) spices though. Finish: coffee/espresso. Dark chocolate. Resin. Overall a rum that goes far towards an extreme side of the spectrum...but does it well without becoming too one sided. Strong flavours. High abv (might not help its balance). Chewable rum.

Part of tasting session with Benjamin from Levy Lane / Tamosi. This one is very good, reminds of a Foursquare in a good way.

Rich caramel spice & pastry. Also quite savoury notes of wax leather & wood. Raisins and some tropical fruit hiding in the background. Instant sweet hit on the pallet, dried fruit, honey, vanilla. Long finish of tobacco & oak “Classic” style but the savoury notes make it interesting. & time brings some epic sweetness!.
