Sipped neat, this is heavy, chewable stuff — French oak, leather, burnt sugar and dry wood spices that push right to the edge without falling over. One taster likens it to a strong armagnac or bourbon, another to a dry Foursquare. At 61.9% it's hot and unsweetened, with coffee, dark chocolate and resin on a long finish. Bring water.

#5447 04.07.2025 Enjoying a few samples while watching TV. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light wood, light roasted, light coconut, faint chocolate, light earthy. Palate Oily, round, fresh, warm, light wood, spice, light caramel, light earthy, light dried fruit, medium spicy, faint chocolate, faint coffee. Finish Long, light wood, medium spicy, light prunes, light caramel, faint coffee. Empty glass Fanilla, chocolate, light coffee, light caramel, faint orange.

Venezuela is sort of an underdog in the whisky community but the blenders/bottlers know what's up. They make a terrific unsweetened Spanish styled yet molasses based rum. This is a big flavoured single cask Venezualan rum. French oak + rum barrel aged. Heavy stuff. Nose: French (acidic) oak. Leather. Vanilla. Sour cherry's. Burnt sugar. Heavy all together Taste: Boom! Big flavours. Thick syrupy woody caramelic bitter/dry spices. Not unlike a strong armagnac or bourbon. Cinnamon. Don't get much fruit, lot's a (wood) spices though. Finish: coffee/espresso. Dark chocolate. Resin. Overall a rum that goes far towards an extreme side of the spectrum...but does it well without becoming too one sided. Strong flavours. High abv (might not help its balance). Chewable rum.

Overall a solid and tasty representative of the 2005 Venezuela vintage. An unusual amount of tannins, roasted aromas and bitterness and a slight acidity. Complemented by cinnamon, coffee, tree resin and dark chocolate, as well as tobacco, coconut and some vanilla. Could be a little more balanced, but that's complaining on a high level.

Rich caramel spice & pastry. Also quite savoury notes of wax leather & wood. Raisins and some tropical fruit hiding in the background. Instant sweet hit on the pallet, dried fruit, honey, vanilla. Long finish of tobacco & oak “Classic” style but the savoury notes make it interesting. & time brings some epic sweetness!.
