Romdeluxe Diamond Wild Series Rum Versaille still (Unicorn Kit Vol 2) EU Version MDXC 2004
Less about dark fruit than you'd expect from an 18-year Demerara — this Versailles leans herbal and savoury. Licorice, thyme, black tea and coffee run through a heavy molasses base, with dried dates and raisins filling in behind. At 56.9% the alcohol sits well integrated, and it drinks lighter and drier than the proof suggests. Several tasters call it the most classic, almost "safe" pour of the Unicorn set.

Aggregated from 56 community reviews.
Herbal, licorice-driven Demerara at cask strength The consensus is a well-made, rounded Demerara that's easy to like — a couple of tasters found the nose beat the palate, and one caught a faint soapy note.

Update: Still delicious. For me, clearly the best rum in this set of three. The Versailles in the second Diamond Unicorn set is also good. None of the three bottles disappointed me ... I got the set

Franconian Tasting Gang on 23.11.24 at Jarek. For me, a solid bottling once again from Romdeluxe. It actually has everything it should. For me, however, the nose was better, which the palate couldn't quite keep up. Still very good.

Ein harmonischer Diamond Versailles mit Lakritze, Kräutern, Kaffee und Gewürzen. Zugänglich, würzig, leicht floral mit gut eingebundenem Alkohol – klassisches Demerara-Profil, rund, ausgewogen und einfach lecker.
Review by LukaŽiga
8,5:On the nose, the first impression we get is thick, fruity and a bit sulphurous, as the fruits are tropical and dried like dates, apricots and raisins, a wood is roasted, perhaps charred with a caramel, Demerara sugar, nuts, spicy with a cinnamon. On aeration, a molasses is really dark with a black tea, licorice, tobacco, there are bbq, bacon, chocolate notes, apples are baked, in the end prunes round the rum nicely. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is again fruity and a bit sulphurous, thick, as there's are dried fruits like dates, raisins, apricots, later yellow fruits, roasted/charred wood brings bacon, caramel, leather, Demerara sugar, molasses is dark with black tea, licorice, herbaceous. The rum is complex, but round and tasty, as after resting we are hit with another wave of notes like nuts, chocolate, coffee, spices like pepper, cinnamon and prunes. 8,4:The finish is long, quite dry, with roasted notes, dried fruits, spicy and the molasses is earthy, floral, herbaceous..

A solid Diamond distilled in the Versailles still. The nose is rather gourmand and accessible, with prunes, licorice, cinnamon, coffee, elegant oak and exotic fruits. The profile is dark, slightly sweet and chocolatey, and full of sweetness. The palate attack is more reminiscent of the Versailles profile, with its grassy notes, thyme, tea, licorice, coffee and dark, spicy, woody notes. The rum is drier, but relatively light and delicate for its alcohol content. The finish is more floral, recalling the freshness of eucalyptus and aromatic herbs. Spices, dried fruit and Demerara sugar are also present, forming a round, very smooth profile. A very accessible and tasty Diamond Versailles, which shows that Demerara rums from the 2000s can also be well made.

Very good Versailles. Unsurprisingly, we're on the usual markers and it's very well done. Personally, I really like these profiles. Completely similar to REV 16ans from the same bottler (although you'd have to compare them at the same time to be more accurate). So you'll have to see which animal you prefer on the label and whether you're a collector or not 😉

I didn’t take any notes at the Rhum Fest so a more detailed review will follow as soon as I get the chance to sample this rum again in a better context.

Goûté au RhumFest avec les ROA. A re-tester. Moins sympa que le MEE 2002. L'intégration de l'alcool est moins bonne que sur les autres bouteilles de la série. J'ai moins aimé malgré des notes de vanille très délicates.
Review by Nivius
This rum has exactly what got me hooked on Guyana - a heavy, molasses-like licorice profile with herbs - that makes it one of the most boring in this series, but I think it's just delicious! The alcohol is nicely integrated and the flavors unfold again nicely in the finish - the flavor profile itself is probably much cheaper to find, but this one comes across nicely balanced and is really fun to drink.

RumRock live no. 47 16.10.2025 On-line degustace rumů rom de luxe , kterou pořádal Pavel Ungr spolu s Kimem Pedersenem. Na nose je to velmi příjemné, v chuti ze začátku v pořádku ale bohužel se objeví drobný náznak mýdla.
