Papillon Vieux from the Esperance distillery in Guadeloupe is a blend of 3yo different vintages distilled in their Creole columns and aged in new American oak barrels as well as in former Bourbon barrels. Overall a good and tasty Agricole that is quite complex.

This vieux is part of the new brand founded by Longueteau: the Papillon rums (reference to the shape Guadeloupe has from above). This vieux rum is a blend of rums over 3 years old (new US oak barrels and ex-bourbon barrels). Bottled at 45% to make it as accessible as possible. On the nose, you find a spicy-peppery-vanilla profile. It's rather fresh with orange zest. The attack on the palate is soft and balanced. You find the pepper from the nose, woodiness and dried fruits. The finish is moderately long on licorice. This Papillon is close to the Symphonie from Longueteau's Harmonie collection. And as often with their vieux, we are still far from a really good agricole as we usually like them...

#7437 25.09.2026 - 28.09.2026 Attending the Whisky Live in Paris 2026 with a few good friends. We had a great time and it was nice to introduce them to this event which was a first for them. Quick notes while tasting. Fresh, fruits, spice, wood, roasted, naturally sweet, licorice, salt.
