A fiery Beenleigh that needs time to be tamed. The nose is fairly aggressive, with hard alcohol notes and a hint of varnish and polish. Fruity notes (apple, pear, orange zest) follow, calming the olfactory aroma a little. Spices (pepper, vanilla) and caramel toffee give a relatively basic profile, typical of Australia. Alcohol dominates on the palate, unbalancing the few remaining aromas. The palate is anesthetized and continues to suffer despite aeration. A few notes of orange, apple, grape and pear make a last stand against the spices, very hot and spicy, caramel and pungent alcohol notes. The profile lacks structure, balanced aromas and depth. The finish is rather short-lived, tinged with warm notes of spice, caramel and dry oak. The apple and grape flavors are all but obliterated. There's not much else to take from this, except that this Beenleigh has a few shortcomings due to its obvious lack of maturity.

Unfortunately, the alcohol is not very well integrated. Needs longer time in the glass, but then at least a pleasant apple note comes through. Along with some spices. Slightly spritzy. It’s okay, but there are better ones from Beenleigh.

#5599 23.08.2025 Celebrating Michael's 50th birthday with some good rums. Nose Medium intense, light wood, faint smoke, light plum, cinnamon, faint mint, light apple, light banana, ester. Palate Medium intense, light wood, light roasted, light banana, faint cherry, light tannins, ester, medium spicy. Finish Medium to long, light wood, medium spicy, fruits, light pineapple, ester, light roasted, faint tannins. Needs to rest for a while for the ABV to settle properly.

I don't think me and Australia are going to be friends anymore. I was already very disappointed with the Velier Beenleigh, and this one follows on seamlessly. Just too unbalanced for me, too alcoholic. Not even cola and ice could change that. Better than a discount rum, yes, but nothing more.

17-07-2025 - Rate 7.9 08-08-2025 - Rate 7.8 Second tasting. Had more time to taste it thoroughly this time. I’m 0.1 lower than last time. I’m found of Beenleigh rums. All rums I have tasted from them have minimum been rated good (7.0-7.9) Notes of wood, spices, alcohol, citrus and polish. Palate with citrus, alcohol and wood. With a hint of tropical fruits. Medium finish with wood and citrus. Alcohol has a dominant factor throughout notes, palate and aftertaste. Let it breathe for 15 minutes.
