Lime and fresh sugarcane lead here, with citrus, a touch of pepper spice and a whiff of hay behind them — a clean, classic Guadeloupe agricole. At 50% the alcohol sits well integrated, and while it reads as a mixing rum, several tasters happily sip it too. A little drier and spicier on the palate than the nose suggests.

Slot #6 in my 2025 Advent calendar. The Distillery Bologne founded in 1930, is located at Basse Terre in Guadeloupe. This rum, L'Éthique, is produced from canes from organically grown plots. The nose is round, intense, fruity, spicy, nutty, fresh and floral with scents of lime, peppers and hay. At the palate it’s round, balanced, smooth, sweet, fruity, spicy and floral with flavors of sugarcane, citrus, lemon, lime, peppers and hay. The finish is rather long with the flavors persisting.

#5435 29.06.2025 Relaxing with a few new samples I got from a friend. Nose Fresh, medium intense, sugarcane, citrus, light floral, light earthy, faint smoke, faint nougat. Palate Fresh, medium intense, sugarcane, citrus, light herbal, faint marzipan, light floral, light mint, fruity. Finish Medium to long, fresh, light oily, light floral, sugarcane, citrus, light mint. Empty glass Fruits, citrus, floral, light chocolate, spice. I know this one is for mixing, but it still makes a very good sipper as well and the price to quality is very good.

A classic agricole rum but balanced and with a good quality/price ratio. The nose is on citrus, vegetal and sweet sugarcane, accompanied by a spicy touch and confectionery notes of nougat and marzipan. It’s a soft and pleasant profile. The attack on the palate is drier and spicier, the chili sharpening the juice once in the mouth. The herbal notes are livelier and the fruits are a bit more pronounced overall. The alcohol is well integrated. We find a good quality finish, with a touch of hay, grass and sugarcane that accentuates the dry side. The spices bring a bit of character and the fruits more roundness. A very conventional but quality profile, which will do wonders in Ti Punch.

In the nose and on the palate less spicy sals the Black Cane from the same house. But more on the fruity side, with lime and citrus in general. In the Ti-Punch even more palatable, but also a bit more boring.
