Velier Hampden The Younger (300cl) LROK 2018
Most people land on the same verdict here: a proper young Hampden with all the markers — banana, pineapple, ester and that varnish note — but several tasters find the palate thin and a touch watery at 47%. One reviewer sums it up as nice but not a bottle he needs to own. Where everyone agrees: it makes a great cocktail rum and a gentle intro to Jamaican funk.

How does Velier Hampden The Younger (300cl) LROK 2018 taste?
From community reviews · summarized with AI
Young, fruity Hampden; light neat, great mixer Textbook Hampden nose of banana, ester and shellac, but the palate reads light and watered-down for some. Loved as a mixer and a first Jamaican; a bit simple neat.

Golden in color, with mango, banana, pepper and shellak on the nose, the palate is dominated by pineapple, orange peel and cloves - I LOVE IT 😎

This bottling definitely has the typical Hampden notes like esters, varnish, and tropical fruits, but it feels a bit thin/watery on the palate. Flavor-wise, it could be much more intense, but the value for money is just awesome for cocktails!
Review by Timo Groeger
So the last one for today, but we have here all the typical Hampden markers, which distinguish it from the rest of Jamaica. Plenty of ester and again tropical fruits (pineapple and banana) haha :) Very tasty despite only 47%.

Nose: Fruit (especially banana but also other fruits I can't specify), esters, and varnish. I like it! Taste: Fruit, esters, and wood. A bit thin. Unfortunately, the taste can't keep up with the nice nose for me. Nice but I don't need a bottle.

Maybe not as cool as its 2016 predecessor. But it's still great value for money. Ideal rum for cocktails, to introduce Jamaicans to beginners, or for a little glass of pleasure. I think it's a success.

Tasted this LROK in comparison with 3 other Hampden Marks (RX19072 HLCF, RX21615 <>H, RX26049 C<>H). Although I actually quite like the Mark, this bottling is not my thing. The color as light gold is OK, but the nose impression is already weak. Reserved aromatics, slight young wood and light yellow fruits. On the palate simply watery and somewhat thin. Gets better over time in the glass, but there are better ones. What remains in the finish is young wood and a bitter note. At first quite strong, but decreasing over time. A rum that, in my view, you don’t have to have. The weakest of the 4 rums tasted.
Review by Lukas Jäger
The rum is okay, no highlight, but a simple, Well drinkable Hampden. Pulled from the big bottle with the pipette but it simply makes an impression, for that there are one, two points extra ;-)
Review by Michal S
A decent young Hampden with tropical fruits (bananas) and esters, a bit light for me.
Review by Arnaud Faverjon
Not bad but really young and a bit too light.
Review by Fuwi
This is probably the kind of rum the average person expects when you say Jamaica. Esters and funk of tropical fruits, along with varnish and light solvents, all in a package with a good punch. It's not high-end, but a pleasant sipper that surely also brings everything needed for tropical cocktails with funk and esters.
