A rum tasted at bar 1802 during WLP25. A bottle opened a quarter of an hour ago. A beautiful nose that reminds me of Bally 1970 but darker, more woody with dried fruit rather than fresh fruit and less fresh vegetal. The palate is fresher than the nose, even if the comparison with the Bally 1970 is the same. Everything here is darker, less fruity. The finish is superb, all elegance. How beautiful were the days when Bally took better care of its distillations and added molasses.

18.10.1985 This hotel actually still exists today. The event was arranged by my workplace and we were only 10 people including me. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: mild, dried fruit, wood, roasted, citrus. Palate: balanced, warm, raisin, citrus, wood, spice. Finish: long, warm, wood, raisin, caramel.

Excellent old Bally with heavy sweetness, dark spices and elegant barrel notes. Great mouthfeel and intensity without being too powerful. Very good.

What a beautiful piece of history this Bally 1939 is. The agricultural/molasses side brings out a nose of rancio, very old, noble and with great softness. The winey side comes out with the cask, as well as some cask notes. It's both dark (spices, roast, leather) and floral and vegetal. A round and complex olfactory profile, from an old time but still lively. The entry on the palate reminds me of a eau de vie. The rum is deep, marked by the old style with dark notes of wood and leather, all enhanced by a touch of fragrant greenery and still indulgent dried fruits (raisin, prune). Despite a nano-sip, the rum wants to be heavy and opulent on the palate, very pleasant to the mouth. The 50% is perfectly blended into the liquid. The finish is long and refined. The elegance of the profile is found in the finish with fruits (dried and raisins), vegetal and floral notes and woody and slightly spicy aromas, which mix perfectly. It's not every day you get a historic Bally, and it's an absolutely wonderful experience that every rum lover should try at least once.

Tried in Bar 1802 Prais on a legendary Evening. Freshly opened and really lovely. Has all the floral and woody notes one would expect, dry, and lightly sweet profile. Of course this will have changed massively in the bottle.
