On the nose, it's immediately clear that we're not dealing with Jamaican High Esters, and I personally don't mind. Quite the contrary, in fact. But the aromatic profile is rather standard: ripe bananas, woody and spicy. With a hint of cinnamon. The nose is nice and makes you want to taste it. Let's go ! The first sip effectively coats the palate, which is loaded with peat! The second sip allows us to take full advantage of it: tropical fruits, spices, wood and peat again! And once in the mouth, I rediscover the peaty structure of the nose, which I hadn't felt at first. It's surprising, because on the other bottles, there's a lot of transparency (even too much), and here there's no mention of a whisky cask finish! But no doubt it is. In fact, this finish isn't disturbing, as it's rather well mastered. It brings a little something extra to the rum because the peat/smoke doesn't dominate the juice. But I don't think it's honest, especially for a keel costing almost €300! One thing's for sure, it's a far cry from the pleasure of tasting Plantation ITP 2000 (Extrême n°4). To conclude this lineup, a patchwork of origins with daring and/or successful finishes. But in any case, this lineup dedicated to the Scottish bottler was full of surprises, and we'd like to thank you all for your participation in making this evening what it was! And a huge thank you to David, who kindly shared 1 bonus pin to prolong our pleasure (I'll talk about that in another post)! To our friends at ROA (Salva/Alain) for defying the Carolo traffic jams to join us there. And thanks again to Elizabeth Yard for offering us the bonus Rum Union to kick off the festivities!

#4086 Despite the price tage you get a pretty good rum here. Once rested for a good while the flavours are released and it reveals a nice overall profile. Fruity with some menthol/camphor and roasted wood. Fresh and warm on the palate that has an oily feel to it. Draws really nice and slow curtains in the glass and the empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some nutts and marzipan.
