Collectors chasing old-style 1970s bottlings are the natural audience here — this is a vintage curiosity more than an everyday pour. The nose draws people in: pear, varnished wood, tobacco and a whiff of fruit spirit, with an agricole edge. 7,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is a bit pungent, with strong barrel impact, slightly metallic, agricole rhum.We notice sugarcane juice, candied caramel, spicy wood and pears. On aeration, the cane is herbaceous, floral and earthy with a tobacco, dried fruits make their mark. 7,7:On the palate, the attack is sweet with caramel, fruity with dried fruits(prunes, apricots), yellow fruits, the wood is roasted, spicy with allspice, vanilla, as sugarcane is floral and herbaceous. 7,5:The finish is rather dry and tannic, with wood notes like coffee, caramel pairing fruits like raisins and dried apricots, with a help of sugarcane...

This rum here is not bad at all. Nose mostly woody and oaky, but also slightly spicy. On the palate, the first impression is like biting into a branch. Then light notes of caramel and vanilla come through.

A slightly spicy nose, a vegetal side with varnished wood, yellow fruits, tobacco, overripe pear, and fruit alcohol. A fairly full palate, caramel, vanilla, fruits, and wood. But everything passes quite quickly. Lacks balance here and the alcohol, even though it's low, isn't very well integrated. The finish is short with a bit of acidity and old wood. Like several of these 1970s rums from Martinique, the noses are rather beautiful but the palates disappoint.

14.12.1995 Travelling around Asia i sometimes found bars that had other stuff than local beer and local whisky, which for that matter wasn't bad in the high temperatures. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: fresh, fruity, light wood, round. Palate: Intense, fruits, wood, unbalanced. Finish: medium long, intense, warm, fruits. 3 out of 5 stars.
