Menthol front and center — think eucalyptus and spearmint pulled right through the nose, backed by furniture polish, leather, young oak and some not-quite-ripe tropical fruit. The nose tends to win people over more than the palate, which turns bitter, tannic and medicinal. One taster called it "very technical," which fits: a tropical-aged 2007 Clarendon that's fresh, drying and unusual rather than easy.

Bellamy tasting. A dark rum with a nose of menthol and polish, yellow fruits coming after. A quite marked vegetal side as well. The mouth is also very marked by menthol going even towards eucalyptus which gives it a lot of freshness. A taste of unripe papaya, roast and tannins. The finish is long with lots of freshness, wood and fruits. A very beautiful rum marked by menthol but luckily with many other aromas. I feel transported on a summit, on an island, watching the sunrise with lots of wild mint around and in the freshness of the early morning. Awesome!

Spicy Clarendon. The nose is even better than the taste. Nice fruity and somewhat floral nose... little wood. In the mouth very immature and alcoholic. Quite ok but nothing that I personally need.

Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Extremely intense Clarendon and one of the first tropical aged 2007s to my knowledge. Personally, it's definitely too fresh, woody and bitter for me but there will surely be fans! Alcohol is perfectly integrated and above all it doesn't have the cheese note from the sister cask in cask strength from Cave Guildive... But it has leather polish times 10! Tastes extremely intense of menthol, almost like pulling spearmints through the nose and drinking some wood polish 🤣 nice light tropical fruit notes and in the almost endless finish very fresh, bitter and spicy.

Palate Fresh, medium intense, light wood, fruity, light varnish, faint rubber, ester, light apple, faint nutts, medium spicy. Finish Long and warm, light wood, faint smoke, spicy, balanced, spice, light nutts.

Hanse Spirit Hamburg February 2026. First, to the Perola stand where I tried three rums and got to meet Serge. Cool guy. This Clarendon, however, doesn't quite convince on the palate after the great nose.

The taste of Jamaica is light with notes of camphor, menthol, young wood and pear. Menthol, apple and pear appear in the finish. Like many other Clarendon rums, it needs some time in the glass to fully develop 👍

Very intense for the rather low ABV. Nice notes of menthol/camphor, polish, tropical fruits (not all ripe) and dusty crushed or crushed sugar cubes or mint pastilles. I can understand if someone doesn’t like this profile much… I quite like it.

Interesting nose, very menthol-y. On the palate then very astringent and still very menthol-y with a strong camphor. Feels quite fierce. On some evenings I enjoy that kind of thing. Not an easy sipper. Sample from the RumX giveaway. Many thanks to Philipp & Perola!!

Awesome load of technical scent, even a Caroni vibe. The same massacre in taste. Tropical fruit, lacquer, tar, menthol, leather. Can't help it, Bellamy's must have bottled Trinidad instead of Jamaica 😃 I have to pour a second glass right away.

Interesting woody aroma with camphor and menthol, a bit of dried fruit in the background. The taste is less pleasant, menthol absolutely dominates, there's tobacco and camphor. Average.

At first, you get a scent of thinner... But after a while, it smells pleasantly of fruits. The first sip is a mix of eucalyptus candy and ripe apple. That's what I tasted. Very long-lasting taste. The finish is very pleasant with its 52%.

23-01-2025 All Clarendon I have tasted have had similarities in nose and taste. But this on is something else. Not a fan and not what I expected. To much smoke and wet wood in that taste. Sorry but not for me.

Menthol is definitely there.. in the nose and taste.. and at the same time a flavor of medicine/drugstore. An interesting sample that I enjoyed, I could even imagine a whole bottle.
