Velier Albion AW 1986
One taster called it the winner of the evening, and that captures the mood here. This 1986 Albion from Velier pours thick and oily, with oak, vanilla, caramel and milky coffee meeting yellow fruit, licorice and dark chocolate. Tropical-fruit and cappuccino notes sit over a heavy, mellow body. Rich and complex, a touch sweet, with a finish that just keeps going.
The community says- Huge complexity

How does Velier Albion AW 1986 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Oily, complex old Demerara sipper A rare, deeply complex old Demerara that tasters routinely name the best of their night. Nose is the highlight; palate a little sweeter and less layered, but beautifully balanced.

Has a little more steam compared to the other Albions, but then shows the great Albion facets in their purest form - oak, vanilla, caramel and café au lait meet elegant spiciness. Excellent.

This rum is unique in its own way. If you add ice other flavours will appear so give that a try too. Many will classify this as a very strong and extreme rum which is overpowering. Just add a few drops of water and you're there.

Old Velier Demerara rums are the best you can taste in the rum world. The rums aged rather by accident for several years in the tropics and nobody topped up the barrel contents. The angel's share was 90% and more, that's why the taste is especially full and intense. Even though it's an extra expensive thing, I recommend tasting rum from this series at least once in your life. EDIT: tasted again in Golden Promise, Paris bar. I am afraid they have a fake bottle there. The taste of their Albion 1986 is sharp and not full. Definitely different compared to the original taste

Albion is a certainty and this bottling proves it too! A really intense rum, it sticks to your palate and is a swing of flavors between sweet, love and a pinch of citrus! The wood is perfectly integrated as is all the fruity part! A power and an endless persistence!

Wow, what a rum. For me, the winner of today's tasting. Unique in taste, a mixture of yellow fruits, caramel, marzipan and wood. A wonderful interplay. Unfortunately, the bottle is no longer available today.

Last tasting of a Velier black bottle Albion. A rum with outstanding complexity on the nose. The palate is a little less complex with more sweet notes but aromas are still incredibly well-balanced. This rum is a cracker 👌🏼

Today the last Unicorn tasting. Unfortunately again exactly my style. Slightly bitter with lots of dried fruits and a bit sweet. Opens more and more in the mouth and lingers forever on the finish. Thanks Egon.

Winner of my evening tasting:) Amazing rum. Extremely balanced, well integrated. Little sweet but rich of many tastes and complex, robust. Alcohol well integrated. All you need for great evening. Price tag is the only downside of this jewel.

A bottle not super impressive, might because this was last few drams from golden promise, I found most Demerara velier stuffs are the best when it just opened Easy drinking stuff, toffee, coffee, a bit salt, I still prefer a bit more 1994

Read full review ›Nose There's a starman waiting in the sky. He'd like to come and meet us, but he thinks he'd blow our minds! The first contact hovers you up, makes you smashing David Bowie hits and opens a whole galaxy of aromas in your mind. Liquorice plays with deep fermented molasses, while gentle smoke and rubber envelop the scene like fog. Dried Mangos, sour cherries and a whole pack of tonka beans, macadamia nuts, mentholated chocolate and fresh cut branches. The bouquet is so deep and complex and the scents so filigree, that it needs some time to decipher everything. Time that we have. After a while the aformentioned notes subside and make room for lovely glues and noble woods. We can't help but think of a connection with LBI, Uitvlugt 1988 and Skeldon 1978. Palate Liquid stardust in your face! An intense sweetness, a slight sourness and a pleasant bitterness are wrangling for attention. The body is so heavy, thick and mellow like oil. And no sharpness at all. Flavourwise we get strong liquorice and tamarrind paste, cola and caramell drops, fermented mint tea, some drops of perfume and the darkest chocolate you can imagine. Surreal stuff. Finish Count in lightyears. Seriously, the whole palate is coated in liquorice and 99% Cocoa chocolate for hours. Believe it or not, we're also getting chicory and hops, which is giving it an astonishing freshness, bitterness and austerity. T.E.R.R.I.F.I.C.
