Musty overripe fruit and a whiff of vinegar hit first — this unaged Japanese pot-still rum leans strange before it leans tasty. Underneath there's banana, pineapple and a light grassy, mineral, faintly salty edge that a couple of members found genuinely interesting. Others just found it too funky-modrig to enjoy. Wild, short and a bit unpolished, even at a gentle 40%.

#4731 20.05.2024 Relaxing at home with a few samples. Nose Fresh, fruity, banana, light vegetal, minerals, light sugarcane. Palate Fresh, round, fruity, pineapple, light vegetal, light grass, minerals, light salty, faint smoke. Finish Medium to long, round, warm, fruits, faint smoke. The empty glass has more smoke and a touch of cherry.

The funny calendar Day 18 Okay, I recognized unaged, but Japan? No chance. Overall, it's a little too musty for me, but it was super interesting to be able to try it. I really wonder how TheDunderhut keeps getting his hands on this stuff.

Very original, I think this is not a rum to taste neat for a novice. I recognize qualities in it that I find in somewhat artisanal rums, even if you can tell it’s more controlled.

The nose is not at all my thing, I would also say something young and wild. There are floral notes, rubber, and a dominant smell that covers everything (and is personally too strange for me) rotten fruit?! Vinegar? On the palate there is fruit but above all "the smell" can also be tasted, so we are back to vinegar. All in all quite short and wild. Alcohol could also just be poorly integrated. Short finish. For me, "drinkable/mediocre" fits quite well.

This was really an interesting experience. This is a rather unique rum in the sense that there is a massive twist on the olive brine. Its not olive at all as so many of these newer producers tend to be. This is maritime, salty and rather okay. A tad too alcoholic, but still.
