RumX Advent calendar day 18 - 17.12.2023 High on glue and medicinal notes, this rum is not of the kind I like. Funny experience for sure being able to try this one, but a rather unpleasant dram for me, a combination driven by the glue and with a bit of vanilla-ey traits adding to the profile.

RumX Calendar Day 17. I had to catch up on this tasting. This rum doesn't quite grab me. But definitely nice to be able to try such a rarity. Nice blend, but unfortunately nothing more.

I can clearly see how this was a considerable challenge to pin point in the blind tastings araound Christmas. Only knowing about the components I can identify the distinct WP banana notes on the nose. Very funky and intense. On the palate it becomes noticeable how much work the small oak cask did. Despite the short aging time, there are plenty of vanilla notes present with edges nicely rounded out. I think this was bottled at just about the right time. Well executed and interesting experiment indeed.

Surprising. A Jamaican mixed with a Guadeloupean rum. Jamaica clearly dominates this blend which in my opinion deserved a stronger reduction. We have esters, glue, pineapple. A light hint of sugar cane.

Probably the most surprising rum in the calendar this year. Nobody probably had this blend of just four bottles on their radar. I find it successful though. The alcohol could be a bit better integrated. But otherwise an exciting combination of WPE profile and rum from Guadeloupe. Especially in the finish, sugarcane dominates. I already said I want WPE from sugarcane juice. This just confirms me in that. I am optimistic that we will experience this.

RumX calendar day 27: Interesting blend between high ester Jamaica and fresh Agricole. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite work for me, even with water it remains quite edgy and not particularly well integrated. Still an exciting experiment.

Rum X Advent 17.12.2023 4 bottles… wow. Needed some sips but the combo has something very cool. I like it, good umami in the mouth. Only the alcohol is a bit too prickly for me.

Calendar #17 / blind The first ester kick on the nose is somewhat tamed after some time in the glass. Vanilla, candied pineapple, banana, honey and a bit of glue. The alcohol is hardly present. On the palate, however, it is already there, an unexpectedly strong start, briefly sharp, then vanilla and a lot of exotic fruit. Vanilla, wood, some marzipan and lime with a lot of ester. The finish is medium length and very harmonious, nothing new comes in and the Hampden slowly fades out.

RumX Advent calendar No. 17: Delicious piece. Very high ABV, but very well integrated. I'm not a fan of high ester rums but here the ester content is really perfect. Would have guessed a young rum from Jamaica.

RX calendar day 17 Interesting combo of ester and Agricole notes. The ones that stood out was pineapple and plum. The abv is kind of rough, especially felt with the young age, so not really your sipping rum. Glad to have had opportunity to try this blend.

#24DaysOfRum2023 - Day 17 On the nose quite atypical for what’s in the glass, as I expected a little more punch. It’s rather flat and vague with sweet notes of cream, untoasted marshmallow and caramel blondies. Cutting through come lime zest, red apple skins, plantains and hints of rhubarb pie. In the mouth the distillery shines through a little more clear, but the most prominent flavours remain unexpected and agricole-esque: raw sugarcane, herbal tea, black olives and a very in-your-face note of raspberries gone off. On the palate we do get a more recognisable side of yellow banana and whipped cream. The finish is dry and medium in length with fresh raspberries flanked with more agricole notes, Jasmin tea and herbs. With 4 bottles, this is probably the rarest glass I’ll ever drink, interesting, but I would not need a bottle of this.

Alcohol is not well integrated. At first a fine fruity note. On the finish, the agricole with wood note dominates. That's not bad, but it didn't convince me either.

RumX Advent calendar 17.12.23: Tough board today. Jamaica, high ester, short aging (<3 years), I would set the ABV even higher, >75% or so. Can't completely decide between Long Pond and Hampden, so two tips today: RX13155 or RX16511.
