Five different casks — Madeira wine, whisky, brandy, Portuguese and Spanish wine — and yet most tasters land on the same verdict: young and unresolved. Expect wood, a thin honey-vanilla sweetness and a solvent, sometimes chemical edge, with tannins fighting a grassy agricole streak. At 3 years from Madeira's William Hinton, several found it harsh, earthy, and short on the finish.

Quite a hard-to-describe floral and fruity aroma. The body is quite fine, but the finish doesn't suit me. It's quite immature, the tannins fight with the typical agricole taste and it just doesn't fit together. A longer ageing period would be appropriate, see the sample for the 2023 calendar. Edit: I finish the sample after a long time and the finish really spoils it. Otherwise it would be a passable rum.

This rum also has a certain sweetness, honey on the nose and caramel on the palate. But here too, the alcohol is not really well integrated. Also, this rum somehow has a very alcoholic taste in the finish. Not my thing.

This rum is overall very alcoholic on the nose and palate for swine 45%. On the nose, there is also a pleasant honey-like sweetness. On the palate, very dry, bitter, and vegetal. Not my thing. And why it was aged in 5 different barrels is a mystery.

On the nose, light solvents, wood, and a bit of vanilla in the background. On the palate, wood dominates, then the vanilla from the nose comes through stronger and stays with a faint tobacco note in the short finish.

To finish the 1423 company "24 days of rum" calendar, I'm going to do 4-5 samples each day, This one has a nose of wood and hints of vanilla. In the notes I find more wood, some tobacco and a sweetness

Very ripe fruit on the nose, with a hint of woodiness and an unpleasant (for my taste) dry, huffy side. On the palate it's not great either, same structure as the nose with alcohol not very well integrated. The length is short to medium, with a touch of brine and olive.

No, no, no. It tastes worse than it smells. The only substance that I can smell, and this is overriding every other tones I can sense, is a crushed penicilin pill. Taste is rather harsh with earthy/vegetal tones supported by chemical synthetic taste that leaves a chalky feeling on the tongue. Only mild sweetness (but it is there). However, I am not a fan. The biggest plus is for the length of finish which is really long. Too bad for me because I don't like the taste of this rum. God that chalky feeling on the tongue is weird.

Sample no.20 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. Harsh on the nose with tequila and port. After it sets more notes of vanilla and dried fruits comes forward. On the palate there is a fermented overripe taste of dried fruits and barrel.

Another sample from the advent calendar. This one completely average. In the scent I feel something synthetic with a trace of wood. In taste a bit agricole, gentle sweetness and astringency on the tongue. Unfortunately nothing I would want to taste again.

A powerful rum in alcohol both on the nose and on the palate! I don't really feel the fruits, I think. It's moderately dry, better to use it in a ti punch or in cocktails. But I'm still pleasantly surprised by this rum from Portugal. Definitely worth trying.

Interesting but very complex. This rum was aged for 3 years in 5 different barrels. Madeira wine, whisky, brandy, Portuguese wine and finally from Spain. We have little info on this. Too bad there is so much blending, it could have been more interesting.

I can smell something strange in this rum, like mold or old wet wood. Also in the taste of this rum you distinguish chocolate, mint and something wrong. I couldn’t finish the sample of this rum

This Rum is too young for it's own good. On top of that it had this acidic quality that a lot of not well-balanced fermentation yeasts produces. They clearly are good technical. But still they fail to produce something enjoyable here.
