Raisin, dried apricot and a salty lick set this apart from the sweet Dominican rums most people know. The Madeira cask adds a spicy, wine-soaked depth over young, fresh oak. At 56.6% the nose can read hot and woody, but the palate turns full and rounded — several tasters were pleasantly surprised. Nice solid dom rep with Madeira wine finish. Dried apricots, brine, raisins, sulphur, some honey and popcorn. Alcohol well integrated, Madeira finish binds well and brings an extra complexity.
