Sip this neat and slow — it barely resembles what most people picture as rum. Unaged Haitian cane-juice spirit, so the glass fills with fresh sugarcane, herbs, olive brine and a green, almost rotten-vegetal edge. Several tasters pull tomato, black tea and menthol out of it too. At 54.3% it's raw but keeps unfolding the longer you nose it.

8,2:On the nose, fresh, minty, vegetal sugarcane with olive, tomatoes, floral, grassy, spicy, fermented overripe citrus fruits, dairy hints, buttery, pungent, rotten, medicinal with esters, polish, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, kiwi and red fruits come out, cheese and confectionery, the cane is herbaceous, grassy with hay, fresh with chamomile hints, black tea. 7,9:On the palate, the attack is slightly medicinal, smoky, fruity with fermented red, citrus fruits, sweet, slightly rotten, the cane is vegetal with briny olive, oily, tomatoes, herbaceous, minty, spicy with cinnamon. 7,8:The finish is medium long, dry, medicinal, smoky, fermented, the cane is vegetal, oily, spicy..

Here we have a decent Clairin, which they usually are. This one is also very vegetal and fresh, with herbs and olive noticeable, on the palate also sugarcane and tomato.

#6122 25.12.2025 First day after Christmas and rime to relax and enjoy some nice rums. Continue to watch Gold Rush while everybody else is sleeping. Nose Fresh, sugarcaine, light polish, vegetal, light herbs, tomato, licht citrus, faint smoke. Palate Oily, sugarcane, vegetal, light herbs, light smoke, light tea, light mint, light citrus, peppery, tomato. Finish Medium to long, light smoke, sugarcane, light tea, light tomato. A classic Clairin: lots of sugarcane and vegetal/herbal aromas dominate here. Alongside that, tomato, citrus fruits, a bit of rot, and cinnamon which only reveals itself after some time.

Wow, very different. Not sure entirely how I feel about it. The small nose is vegetal, verging on rotten. The taste follows the nose but brings sweetness and maybe some dried fruit flavours. One to revisit.

As usual with Clarins, there is much complexity here. You can nose this for a while picking up new notes. Same goes for taste. A rum that is very good in my book. Heaps of flavor. And it has, or at least had when I bought it, a very reasonable price. To those who have yet to try any Clarin, pick this one or any other of them. They are all special in their own way and I would say its impossible to go wrong. Or at the very least, it could have gone a lot worse. Price to quality is always great on these bottles.
