Sipped neat, this is unaged Hampden at its rawest: solvent, glue and green apple up front, then pineapple, citrus and a nutty, cherry-yogurt edge. At 60% it's dry and a touch bitter, and most tasters find it the quietest, flattest mark of the eight. Several who tried it in cola found it far friendlier than in the glass.

The next tasty rum from the 8 Marks collection. I find it a bit better than the first. Light notes of cocoa or chocolate can be detected but on the other hand also very fruity. Interesting rum.

Unidentifiable alcoholic distillate. Smells like the mix you refused from your best buddy at a party when you were 16 and then ended up drinking anyway, only to throw up 2 hours later.

31.07.2026 Retasting with my good friend and this is still a pretty decent experiment. This one also does pretty well in a cola actually. --------------- This one has a nice nutty touch to the fruity notes. Lightly dry and has a lovely nose in the empty glass.

Tasting of the 8 Hampden Marks and re-tasting one year later. The tasting is very similar to that of last year. The chalky nose of the OWH has been erased, replaced by solvent and glue, with fruit - including fig - coming later. The palate is thinner than the OWH, but the solvents have almost disappeared and the fruit has taken over. It's longer, with lots of fruit. The empty glass is very fruity, like a tropical orchard, and the solvents reappear.

... the second of the 8-Marks-Collection. Nose: like the OWH, dish soap dominates. Also, for me, it has a pleasant cherry yogurt note. Added to that are lime and orange. Also, a sour, green apple. Overall on the fruity side. Esters are not really noticeable despite the 4 days of fermentation, at best in the buttery yogurt note. Palate: quite creamy-sweet-spicy. The cardamom flavor is a bit more intense than in the OWH but is accompanied by licorice. Some fatty nuts mix in. I find cherry as fruit. At the back, it tastes a bit soapy. I hardly recognize Hampden, esters are not detectable, but it is surprisingly aromatic.

I know the chemistry of your Hampden rum! The 8-Marks set is very informative and educational. The LROK mark doesn't have a high ester content but is very diverse, which I like. Unfortunately, the musty note in the mouth is very present, which I don't like.

Exciting comparative tasting, really challenges the senses of smell and taste. The LFCH comparatively the most herbal, but overall rather bland. Bitter and dry on the palate, not so impressive.

Tasting the Hampden 8 marks box among friends! A good Monday! Quick notes: Bitterness, Pepper, grapefruit, Nail polish Quite dry though Surprising, I didn't necessarily expect that. Finish a bit too dry and short. Edit: still quite tasty with very ripe pineapple that I didn't get the first time.

The mark LFCH does not really make sense to me as a white rum. Tropically stored the rum wins, but unstored he is rather uninteresting-although no off notes are present.

Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting LFCH unaged: little esters, tropical fruits, but not really definable. Has something of fruit brandy. Slight burn on the finish. Alcohol still well integrated. Differences to OWH unaged are marginal if any.

The apple from the OWH is suddenly joined by a whole fruit basket of pineapple, banana and, surprisingly, cherry and almond! It's also subtly reminiscent of fruit yoghurt! The solvent note recedes into the background, replaced by the taste of cocoa nibs and slight, rather negative petrol associations in the finish. Much more pleasant and rounder than the OWH, but still room for improvement.

8 Marks Hampden unaged versus 1 year aged LFCH. The unaged one is dominated by alcohol with slight fruitiness and a slight off-flavor on the finish. The aged one is much rounder.

Exciting tasting. Some were surprisingly extremely tasty and flavorful for me. The universally popular distillery in a different light. Trying the base product in this form has its charm. The maturity from the aging is then a different level. In the end, I mixed all 8 Marks together and left it for 3 weeks, I have to say top. All 8 together really create a good profile.

My first Hampden, I expected a bit more, wet, full of green apple notes, sour, a bit of lime. Palate spicy, calvados taste, a bit sweet, alcohol well integrated, you hardly notice the 60%. Slightly soapy, creamy. Finish with medium fruity-spicy taste, slight burning on the tongue. After the second tasting, the flavor improved slightly.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Compared to the relocated OWH, a bit more glue on the nose and a bit spicier on the palate. But I find the OWH more drinkable in the unaged version. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a pleasure and the rating is only to be understood relatively among themselves. Still very interesting to try all Marks under the same conditions and to taste the different expressions of fruit, glue, spice and surprisingly often umami. Soon a set with 3-5 years in the barrel?

LFCH - cool, ringing spirit. More fruits, tropical, concentrated lemon juice, hints of gentleness. The tails are also felt. The taste is drinkable, not even harsh. Tropical fruits, balance of sour and sweet, pleasant astringency.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness and alcohol perfectly integrated. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the ester stratosphere ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity and balance. The typical distillery profile. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and marzipan notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: no joke here. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastry, funk and yet an amazing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️ 🎯 The big surprise? We organized this tasting "for science" expecting to suffer through some ultra-esterified whites. Well... not at all. Certainly, these are not rums for every palate, but overall it remained surprisingly coherent and pleasant to taste from start to finish. A true demonstration of Hampden's know-how.

... Hampden, legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Second of the marques. A bit more overripe that the first and not much improved. The nose is fruitier with raspberry and overripe fruit. Nutty and fermented fruit on the mouth. The finish is chocolate and petrol with overripe fruit.

Let's continue. This rum has a solid 60%. It tastes slightly fruity and in my opinion also slightly alcoholic. Not a top-class rum but still quite okay. Let's see what the other rums from the collection say.

Pours the same clear with slight gold tinge as the others. Less spice on the finish than OWH, and definitely a little sweeter. Mango, though just a hint. Maybe passion fruit. Pleasant. Maybe some orange peel.

Tried at the Hampden Masterclass with Daniele Biondi during Whisky Live. Great experience to deconstruct Hampden, although the individual unaged spirits weren’t that great overall. 2. LFCH 5.5 Boring, close to Vodka for me. Didn’t like at all. Not sure if it is my palate or the pour stood too long, vastly different than the others.
