Pineapple, banana and a smear of glue up front, then a spicy, peppery, cardamom-driven palate that finishes bone dry. This is unaged Hampden LROK at 60% — a lower-ester mark, so tasters get tropical fruit and a little acetone rather than full funk. Several found it rough and one-dimensional neat; the dryness makes a genuinely good daiquiri.

All in all, an exciting tasting. Some of them were surprisingly delicious and tasty. The ever-popular distillery in a different light. Trying the basic product in this form has its appeal. The maturation through storage is a different matter. My platform: HLCF > HGML > C<>H Clear low-light: LROK

31.07.2026 Retasting with my good friend and this is still a pretty decent experiment. A pretty decent release and it did pretty well in cola and sprite. --------------- Lightly dry and fruity with a light roasted touch.

Tasted the 8 Hampden Marks and re-tasted a year later with a better score. Very similar to last year's tasting. Slight spiciness on the nose, chalky like the OWH, wet paper. The palate is less aromatic than its predecessors, chalky with overripe apple and a fermented side that is quite present throughout the tasting. Does the chalkiness come from the distillation heads, as in cognac and armagnac? The finish is a little short but complex, with apple very present. The empty glass is warm but a little hollow. Disappointing for a LROK, whereas I found the HV RX104 absolutely magnificent.

A very nice rum. On the nose an ester and fruit smell, on the palate for me then fruity, towards citrus fruits and lime. I find the alcohol is well integrated, you hardly think it has 60%.

The Mark LROK does not really make sense to me as a white rum. Tropically stored the rum wins, but unstored he is rather uninteresting-although no off notes are present.

Der Dritte der 8-Marks-Collection. Jetzt könnte es interessanter werden, da ab diesem Mark auch Muck und Dunder zum Einsatz kommen. Nase: ja, jetzt kommen zum ersten Mal Ester ins Spiel. Zurückhaltend und eher in Richtung Fruchtester. Banane mit noch wenig Kirschjoghurt und leicht vergorener Honigmelone lassen ihn recht fruchtig erscheinen. Dann erst das Spülmittel. Hinten kommt noch eine leicht herbe Karamell-Note hinzu. Das leicht Herbe wir von etwas Kräuterigem und Geäst unterstrichen. Gaumen: wirkt wieder süß und cremig. Vordergründig jetzt viel Süßholz mit einem Hauch Kardamom. Leicht bitter und etwas salzig mit Umami. Im Abgang dominiert für mich das Süßholz. Immer noch keine Ester am Gaumen zu vernehmen, jedenfalls nicht so, wie ich sie von gelagerten HD kenne.

I know the chemistry of your Hampden rum! The 8-Marks set is very informative and educational. The LROK mark, created by the Owen-Kelly family, still has a lower ester content but already has various aromas arising from a diverse ester composition. However, the musty note is also present.

On aeration, green fruits and cherry arise.The molasses is green, fresh, spicy, some smokiness join, slightly pungent touch, 7,6:On the palate, the attack is intense with medicinal notes, smoky, fruity with fermented tropical and citrus fruits, dairy notes, creamy, buttery, green fruits like apple is out, slightly sour the molasses is herbaceous, grassy, floral, spicy with pepper, cardamom, warm. 7,4:The finish is medium long, dry, medicinal chemical, fruity with fermented tropical, citrus, green fruits, the molasses is flowery, vegetal, earthy, joined by licorice hints, spicy with allspice, meaty.

The fruits are much more tropical here compared to the LFCH. Pineapple, melon and some lime in the foreground. Roasted notes and caramel are added, the mouthfeel is somewhat drier than the LFCH. Again, light petrol notes in the finish. Somehow not a really round thing.

In direct comparison of the unaged with the 1-year aged LROK. While the unaged is still quite spirituous, the 1-year clearly benefits from aging. The spirituous notes retreat clearly into the background. Fruity notes come through more strongly. Overall significantly more harmonious.

spannendes Tasting. Einige waren für mich überraschenderweise äusserts lecker und schmackhaft. Die allseits beliebte Destilliere in einem anderen Licht. Das Grundprodukt in dieser Form zu versuchen hat seinen Reiz. Die Reife durch die Lagerung ist dann doch eine andere Hausnummer. Ich hab am Schluss alle 8 Marks zusammen geschüttet und 3 Wochen stehen gelassen, ich muss sagen Top. Alle 8 zusammen ergeben echt ein gutes Profil.

Exciting comparative tasting, really challenges the senses of smell and taste. LROK offers, besides esters, some more herbal aromas, leaning towards Agricole on the nose. On the palate surprisingly spicy and medicinal.

Honestly, it's the historic mark and I also find it more balanced. The esters are less present, the roasted pineapple and butter are well marked, it's creamier and more indulgent on the palate. This one can be drunk neat without any problem.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: The LROK shows a bit more glue on the nose than LFCH and OWH. Also rather savory notes like olive. On the palate, more on the spicy, smoky side. Almost a bit umami. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a pleasure and the rating is only to be understood as relative among themselves. Still very interesting to try all Marks under the same conditions and taste the different expressions of fruit, glue, spice, and surprisingly often umami. Soon a set with 3-5 years in the barrel?

Second one tasted across the 8 marks collection but 3rd along the ester scale. Again pineapple and banana on the nose but more buttery and caramel notes here than with the OWH. Palate brings spicy, peppery, cardamom notes alongside the familiar pineapple. The standout here though is the dryness of the finish. It really seems to suck any moisture out of your mouth. Overall it’s reasonable but not something I’d be desperate for. It works fairly nicely in a daiquiri where it’s dryness is offset by the lime and sugar.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the ester stratosphere ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and almond paste notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: no joke here. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastry, funk and yet an astonishing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️ 🎯 The big surprise? We organized this tasting "for science" expecting to suffer on some ultra-esterified whites. Well... not at all. Certainly, these are not rums for all palates, but the whole remained surprisingly coherent and pleasant to taste from start to finish. A true demonstration of Hampden's know-how.

Tasting this alongside HCLF, C<>H, and DOK. As always, that Hampden tropical funk is there, but I get much more green or unripe fruits and really appreciate the dryness. This would (will) make a fantastic daiquiri. The sour cherry on the finish is wonderful.

Tasted in a moon up after a Savanna Lontain 57.5. It's Hampden but drier, less tasty than usual. An unpleasant dust taste. The worst Hampden tasted so far.

Description: Nose Palate Finish Conclusion, I like it as much as the LFCH unaged. I found it as intense as the previous one but my buddy felt it reached a new level of intensity. I prefer the version aged one year.

Tried at the Hampden Masterclass with Daniele Biondi during Whisky Live. Great experience to deconstruct Hampden, although the individual unaged spirits weren’t that great overall. 3. LROK 7.0 Getting more robust, slight fruitiness but no funk. Still rather rough.

A softer more buttery nose. Generally like LROK but this is a bit underweight. Spice, cardomom, and citrus on the notes. A roasted and dry finish with more tropical fruits.

Passion fruit with a little pepper thrown in. Pours clear with a slight gold tinge. Some nail varnish in the finish. I prefer the initial flavour more than the finish. Some vanilla here. Would definitely be nice even in just a cuba libre.
