This is unaged Hampden HLCF at 60% — the mark where the ester "funk" really shows up. Several tasters call it the point where things get interesting, though a few note the alcohol isn't fully tucked in. Fascinating as a raw look at Hampden, less so as a relaxed pour.

All in all, an exciting tasting. Some of them were surprisingly delicious and tasty. The ever-popular distillery in a different light. Trying the basic product in this form has its appeal. The maturation through storage is a different matter. My platform: HLCF > HGML > C<>H Clear low-light: LROK

Vanilla, light caramel. I know esters are a little higher here than LROK but it seems a little lighter in profile to me than LROK or even LFCH. Pours clear with light hint of gold like the others.

31.07.2026 Retasting with my good friend and this is still a pretty decent experiment. This one is pretty nice unaged and I could have used a full bottle of it. --------------- Not a bad rum though I would have loved to try this one riped in a barrel. Fruity with nice esters.

Dégustation des 8 marks Hampden et regoûté un an après avec une meilleure note. La dégustation est très proche de celle de l’année passée. Le nez est plein de fruits trop mûrs, légère volatile, mais pas de solvants. La bouche est pointue, complexe avec toujours des fruits sur-mûrs. L’alcool n’est pas si bien intégré. La finale est un peu plus longue, sur l’umami les fruits et un léger champignon. On pourrait penser à un Whisky écossais en sentant le verre vide. Troublant.

Édit : le nez est un peu décevant avec l’aération, c’est plus herbacé / Thé et moins esterisé que dans mon souvenir. Dégustation du coffret Hampden 8 marks entre copains ! Un bon lundi ! Notes rapides : Plus équilibré mais presque plat X3 en sensation vs le premier. Ester facile à boire. Petit côté orange Fruité et massepain. Super agréable et équilibré ! Elle longueur.

The Mark HLCF does not really make sense to me as a white rum. Tropically stored the rum wins, but unstored he is rather uninteresting-although there are also no off notes.

Der vierte der 8-Marks-Collection. Nase: endlich, jetzt kommen die Ester. Wird ja auch Zeit mit jetzt bis max. 600! Und dazu auch die HD- typischen Marzipan-, Ananas und Essig-Aromen. Das alles aber nur, wenn man gleich nach dem einschenken schnüffelt. Bleibt er länger offen stehen, sind alle Ester futsch. Hat aber immer noch auch etwas leicht grünes, herbes. Gaumen: zum ersten Mal auch hier endlich Ester. Leicht süßlich, trocken, noch etwas cremig und auch wieder deutlich Süßholz. Wirkt insgesamt wieder mehr würzig, mit einem Hauch Kardamom. Wenn er lange offen an der Luft steht, nimmt das Kardamom übrigens überhand. So bleibt es im Hintergrund, ist aber da. Durch die aufkommenden Ester kommt nun etwas Hampden-DNA hinzu. Blind könnte er aber auch irgendetwas sein. Bleibt spannend.

I know the chemistry of your Hampden rum! The 8-Marks set is very informative and educational. The HLCF mark is considered a transition to the heavier ester molecules and ester rums. Now with more green banana and red berries. Not too badly fermented on the mouth, actually pretty clear.

Much rounder than the LROK! Finally the kind of ester I like: brioche pastry, burnt sugar, ripe pineapple and banana... There's also some raspberry, fresh black pepper, lime and green apple on the finish. No more disturbing petrol note in the finish, but some licorice. Certainly makes a great daiquiri!

Thanks to DomM Franconian Tasting Gang rocks. Unfortunately, I didn't like it that much. But I'm now seriously thinking about getting a set and trying them all as mixers. Now that the set is available everywhere again at a reasonable price.

8 Marks Hampden unaged versus 1 year aged HLFC. The higher the mark, the more interesting it gets. Here with the unaged rum you still have a clear alcohol note, but also already a nice fruitiness. The aged HLFC is then noticeably rounder. The fruit notes come much more to the forefront.

Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting HLCF unaged: on the nose somewhat alcoholic, pungent/sharp-edged. Still a lot of tropical fruits (not specifically definable). Higher ester content now clearly noticeable.

The maturation through storage is a different matter. In the end I poured all 8 marks together and left them to stand for 3 weeks, I have to say top. All 8 together make a really good profile.

Exciting comparative tasting, really challenges the senses of smell and taste. By now, I can hardly distinguish the HLFC from the other Marks. Very round and complex, fruit and spice.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Noch mehr Klebstoff in der Nase, Frucht sehr im Hintergrund. Geschmacklich etwas herb, aber nicht ganz frei von Fruchtnoten. Braucht mehr Zeit im Glas bevor er genießbar wird. Fazit: keiner der 16 Rums war ein Genuss und die Bewertung ist nur als relativ untereinander zu verstehen. Trotzdem sehr interessant alle Marks unter gleichen Bedingungen zu probieren und die verschiedenen Ausprägungen von Frucht, Klebstoff, Würze und Überraschenderweise oft Umami zu schmecken. Demnächst ein Set mit 3-5 Jahren im Fass?

Also top this Hampden from the 8 Marks Collection. Ester on the nose, of course, but also tropical. Fruits. The tropical fruits continue on the palate, in combination with citrus fruits. Alcohol well integrated. Delicious.

Listened to episode 97 of the Rumcast podcast today. It covers the 8 Marks set. Great listen. Picked the HLCF to try tonight on the recommendation from the episode to consider the marks which have a greater complexity of non-ethyl acetate esters, rather than going for just the highest ester marks. The nose brings lots of tropical fruits, pineapple, banana, marzipan and esters. The palate carries the notes from the nose but also is peppery, creamy, warm and candied. The finish is long with green apple, honey, citrus and licorice. I enjoyed sipping this. It certainly works well unaged and stand alone. I think this is also the mark used for Rum Fire 🔥and I can see why.

Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you can sense wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of those rums you "must try before you die."

HLCF - juicy pineapple, overripe mango, maybe even a little bit rotten, ginger, a bit of chili. Funky notes - lacquer, white spirit, rubber glue. The taste is incredibly tropical and rich. Fruits dominate with funky notes.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk". Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the stratosphere of esters ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and marzipan notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: no joke here. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastry, funk and yet an astonishing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️ 🎯 The big surprise? We organized this tasting "for science" expecting to suffer with some ultra-esterified whites. Well... not at all. Certainly, these are not rums for every palate, but the whole remained surprisingly coherent and pleasant to taste from start to finish. A true demonstration of Hampden's know-how.

I love that rum fire smell but more refined, more tame, and that I find in the hlcf Rum #11980. But still wilder than the papalin 5 years #21813. The taste is below the nose. The finish is long. Dark. It's good, but I prefer others from Hampden.

Tried at the Hampden Masterclass with Daniele Biondi during Whisky Live. Great experience to deconstruct Hampden, although the individual unaged spirits weren’t that great overall. 4. HLCF 7.0 First time ester notes, the fruits get more pronounced. Banana & red berries, but more young than rotten.

The first more interesting marque. HLCF is an interesting prospect. Marzipan and solvent on the nose. The mouth is peppery and orange heavy, easy and complex at the same time. Finish is pineapple and umami with some solvents. Solid and keen to try more

Tasting with LROK, C<>H, and DOK. Compared to the LROK, this has some more salient spice notes and umami that reminds me of movie popcorn a bit. Great unaged, but wouldn’t fill the daiquiri role as well as LROK. Fantastic aged.
