Know the chemistry of your Hampden rum! The 8-Marks set is very informative and educational. The Diamond H Mark is chemically similar to DOK. Lots of pineapple and banana, but also bitter chocolate and delicious creamy toffee. Overall, this rum already makes quite an impression even without aging.

31.07.2026 Retasting with my good friend and this is still a pretty decent experiment. My favourite mark and it didn't disappoint me at all. --------------- This is a pretty good one considering it's unaged. Fruity and dry with a very light roasted note.

Tasting of the 8 Hampden marks. The nose is complex, esters, volatile, a slight vinegar and marked by ripe banana. The mouth is a bit pasty, on yellow fruits, especially pear with butter and a multiplicity of tropical fruits. The alcohol is a bit more pronounced (because of the slight vinegar?) The longest finish so far and the empty glass represents a true kaleidoscope of tropical fruits.

No. 5 from the 8 Marks Collection. Even though we haven't reached the DOK yet, the ester stands out here. On the nose also glue, solvent and pineapple. On the palate additionally citrus fruits and acidity. All in all successful.

Crazy! 🤯 Completely turned around 180° Aromatic. The fruits have moved into the background, but suddenly dark chocolate, roasted nuts, black pepper, green and black (smoky) cardamom and licorice. This was unexpected but I really like it! Definitely the surprise culprit in the series so far.

Der Fünfte der 8-Marks-Collection. Nun sind wir eindeutig im Bereich von Funk, mit deutlich mehr Dunder und Muck und schon 10 Tagen Fermentation. Nase: nun bin ich endlich bei Hampden. Präsente Ester. Ananas-Marzipan mit Banane und Lösungsmittel. Bei Klebstoff bin ich noch nicht ganz. Dazu aber frische Zitrone und eine feine Essig-Note im Hintergrund. Vielleicht ist da auch schon ein Hauch Honig? Gaumen: säuerliche Ester sind jetzt dominant. Dazu das typische Ananas-Marzipan mit noch deutlich vorhandenem Süßholz. Im Hintergrund und im Abgang ganz leicht wahrnehmbar Kardamom. Dazu wird er hinten raus etwas fettig-nussig und leicht blumig Richtung Veilchen. Wunderbar, dass Ausgangsmaterial von so vielen wunderbaren, gelagerten HD zu verkosten.

Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting <>H unaged: on the nose lots of tropical fruits (banana slightly recognizable for the first time) and esters. Also overripe for the first time. On the palate again very fruity (banana no longer recognizable here).

spannendes Tasting. Einige waren für mich überraschenderweise äusserts lecker und schmackhaft. Die allseits beliebte Destilliere in einem anderen Licht. Das Grundprodukt in dieser Form zu versuchen hat seinen Reiz. Die Reife durch die Lagerung ist dann doch eine andere Hausnummer. Ich hab am Schluss alle 8 Marks zusammen geschüttet und 3 Wochen stehen gelassen, ich muss sagen Top. Alle 8 zusammen ergeben echt ein gutes Profil.

Spannendes Vergleichstasting, da werden die Geruchs- und Geschmackssinne ordentlich gefordert. Der <>H hat wieder ordentlich Ester mit viel Klebstoff und herbale Frucht, am Gaumen auch mit warmen Gewürzen

Les esters montent et l’acétone arrive « enfin » dans le profil. Elle écrase un peu les fruits au nez même si en bouche ils reviennent. Un profil aux esters encore gerables, c’est pas le feu en bouche. Pas mal.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: Again glue in the nose, but compared to the HLCF the fruit slowly comes back. Also notes of almond or marzipan, taste impression similar to the nose. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a pleasure and the rating is only to be understood relatively among them. Still very interesting to try all Marks under the same conditions and taste the different expressions of fruit, glue, spice and surprisingly often umami. Soon a set with 3-5 years in the barrel?

тут уже все вперемешку. Резиновый клей, тропические фрукты, сладкий бальзамический уксус, перчинка, кислые оливки каламата, черный шоколад. Невероятно насыщенный и сладкий. Пряный имбирь, все те же оливки, бальзамико и клей.

... Hampden, legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

The third of the 8 Marks tasted in succession and 5th on the ester scale. It had the hallmark pineapple and overripe banana on the palate and nose. More esters / solvents on the nose and palate. On the palate some acidity and bitterness. Very little discernible finish.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection unaged <>H compared to Hampden 8 Marks Collection <>H with one year of aging. You can notice the influence of aging here again. Clearly rounder, the fruit notes come through stronger and the slightly spirituous notes disappear.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness, and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the ester stratosphere ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity, and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and marzipan notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: now, no joke. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity, and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastry, funk, and yet an astonishing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️ 🎯 The big surprise? We organized this tasting "for science" expecting to suffer with some ultra-esterified whites. Well... not at all. Admittedly, these are not rums for every palate, but the whole remained surprisingly coherent and pleasant to taste from start to finish. A true demonstration of Hampden's know-how.

Tried at the Hampden Masterclass with Daniele Biondi during Whisky Live. Great experience to deconstruct Hampden, although the individual unaged spirits weren’t that great overall. 5. <>H 7.5 Ester getting more prominent, ripe fruits are there. Think I could finally identify this as Hampden :)

Definitely a little banana, maybe some toffee here. Mostly sweet flavours here, and finish is softer than the OWH, LFCH, and LROK—no real lacquer note here. Blackberries and some young wood like ripperussr says. Getting very pleasant at fifth mark in.

An unusual nose with yeast and vinegar - intriguing. Mouth has some astringency with pepper and banana. The finish is short and intense, with sour and astringent elements with dark chocolate. Interesting rum, and one that makes me want to try more
