Pineapple leads here — sharp, ripe, almost jammy — trailed by banana, acetone and a marzipan note several tasters kept coming back to. It's an unaged 60% Hampden pot-still white, so expect glue, tropical funk and a tangy sour-sweet bite. Many called it their favourite of the 8 Marks set; a few found the acidity drying and puckering. Not a mellow sipper.

The last one for me from the 8 Marks Collection, this time the HGML. Definitely, the ester dominates here in nose and palate. Also the obligatory tropical fruits. On the palate, solvents also appear.

31.07.2026 Retasting with my good friend and this is still a pretty decent experiment. Also pretty high in the ester level and I like this one as well. --------------- Not too bad either and this one has a very nice nose in the empty glass after a while. There is also a very light roasted note on this one.

Tasting of the 8 Hampden Marks and re-tasting a year later. The tasting is very similar to that of a year ago. A nose dominated by solvents, overripe pineapple and esters. A complex nose, but with less fruit than the other marks. The palate is less aromatic, more alcoholic, with a persistent woody tannin. The higher the esters, the longer the finish. The empty glass gives the same astonishing impression of woodiness and tannins, and is also reminiscent of a Scotch whisky. Not the most balanced or fruity.

Un bon lundi ! Notes rapides : ACÉTONE gras beurre banane un peu agressif Fruits exotiques, banane super équilibré et gourmand Petite pâtisserie pour finir ! Un peu excessif mais bien gras, on dirait presque qu’il est vieilli !

Know the chemistry of your Hampden rum! The 8-mark set is very informative and instructive. The pineapple is very dominant in the HGML mark. High ester content! Very pleasing. This rum has an exciting toasty chocolate nuttiness to the usual fruit basket and it's complex in the mouth too.

The sixth of the 8-Marks-Collection. Another 5 days more fermentation than the <>H. A not so common mark, the HGML... Nose: fantastically many esters. Pineapple, vinegar and a bit of marzipan. That's HD funk! Also fresh citrus fruits again, now more towards green lime. Here the detergent from the slow-ester marks was also used. But there's not much more, and that's enough. That's all it should be 🥰! Palate: pleasant and intense esters with pineapple and banana. Licorice also here, but more towards caramelized. At the very back a hint of cardamom. In the finish a fat nut. Similar to the <>H. Also nice!

Here again more classic fruits and above all more citrus. However, the acidity here is definitely a bit too much for me. The mouthfeel is very furry and dry, plus this acidity that pulls everything together. If you (can) ignore this, you get a nice combination of berries and citrus fruits and candied fruits in the finish.

Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting HGML unaged: very similar to its predecessor <>H; many tropical fruits, pleasant ester aromas, overripe. For the first time pineapple is noticeable in nose and palate, also something fermented. Overall clearly more intense than the <>H

Overall, exciting tasting. Some were surprisingly for me extremely tasty and tasty. The ever popular distillery in a different light. Trying the basic product in this form has its appeal. The maturity through storage is then but another house number. My pedestal: HLCF > HGML > C<>H Clear low light: LROK

spannendes Tasting. Einige waren für mich überraschenderweise äusserts lecker und schmackhaft. Die allseits beliebte Destilliere in einem anderen Licht. Das Grundprodukt in dieser Form zu versuchen hat seinen Reiz. Die Reife durch die Lagerung ist dann doch eine andere Hausnummer. Ich hab am Schluss alle 8 Marks zusammen geschüttet und 3 Wochen stehen gelassen, ich muss sagen Top. Alle 8 zusammen ergeben echt ein gutes Profil.

Wow - really hits the Pineapple flavour on the head from nose to palate. There is also banana, papaya, a sweet candied type aspect and green apple coming through. But this is all about pineapple and whilst undoubtedly very intense it isn’t over the top. Maybe my favourite of the 8 marks but I’d need to try it again alongside other top contenders.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: On the HGML the fruit again takes over the nose before adhesive solution. The impression is confirmed in taste, pleasantly sweet, balanced. Also drinkable as a white rum. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a pleasure and the rating is only to be understood relatively among themselves. Still very interesting to try all marks under the same conditions and taste the different expressions of fruit, adhesive, spice and surprisingly often umami. Soon a set with 3-5 years in the cask?

Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can sense wild esters that make your whole body soak in the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness, and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the ester stratosphere ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity, and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and almond paste notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: no joke here. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity, and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastries, funk, and yet an amazing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️ 🎯 The big surprise? We organized this tasting "for science" expecting to suffer on some ultra-esterified whites. Well... not at all. Certainly, these are not rums for every palate, but the whole remained surprisingly coherent and pleasant to taste from start to finish. A true demonstration of Hampden's know-how.

Bien meilleur que le LROK goûté juste avant. Dans cette line up on y retrouve la traditionnelle banane et les esters. Mais il y a du fumé et de la carne que je ne retrouve pas chez hampden mais plutôt dans des clairins. Étonnant !

Tried at the Hampden Masterclass with Daniele Biondi during Whisky Live. Great experience to deconstruct Hampden, although the individual unaged spirits weren’t that great overall. 6. HGML 8.0 Getting even better! Prominent funkyness, ripe bananas & ananas. Nice to sip even unaged.

Enjoyed this one. Chocolate and banana on the nose, mouth is all esters and overripe tropical fruit. Finish is candied pecan and banana. Really solid, need to try more HGML.

Sweet and slightly tangy. Nicest one yet. More taste profile than the and more pleasant overall than the other four in this list. Pours clear with a hint of gold. Tangerine and passion fruit. Asian sweet and sour sauce.
