Nail polish, glue and overripe pineapple hit before the glass reaches your nose — this is DOK, Hampden's highest-ester mark, unaged and full-throttle at 60%. Underneath the solvent punch sit tropical fruit, marzipan sweetness and a sour, umami tang. Most tasters find it surprisingly drinkable for what it is, with the alcohol tucked in well. A distinct experience more than an everyday pour.

31.07.2026 Retasting with my good friend and this is still a pretty decent experiment. Also really good despite the super high ester levels. It also made a mean Rum'n'Coke. --------------- This is the best one of the series. No doubt that it's DOK with all its nice esters exploding on the palate.

Tasted all 8 Hampden Marks and re-tasted a year later. The least beautiful nose of the series, a little deviant, pungent and with solvents. But still reasonable, contrary to my expectations. Less fruit than the other marks. The palate is surprisingly smooth after this entry. The longest finish but a little deviance reappears as on the nose. Disappointing and brings deviant aromas but remains quite pleasant.

Tasting the Hampden 8-mark boxed set with friends! A good Monday! Quick notes: The Ester explosion is there, the nose is excessive on solvents and varnish, On the palate, the fruit and fat bring a softness and duality that fights off this big ester slap. The finish is still rather dry. It's a bit monolithic and too straightforward to be worth drinking again, but an interesting experience! Edit: not much to say, it's a slap in the face, but it's still good!

And now the eighth and last of the 8 Marks Collection. DOK! All in. Lots of Dunder, lots of Muck Pit, 25 days of fermentation... NOSE: ESTER!!! And they cut into the mucous membranes. Intense sweet and sour pineapple, lots of vinegar, marzipan sweetness, tart and sweet maple syrup. And glue, finally 😉. A DOK as it should be. An intense ester bomb.Palate: very intense esters here too. Plus totally intense sweet and sour pineapple with marzipan. There is actually some licorice added. Also, very astringent and about umami.In summary, I can say that the different Hampden marks can be experienced very well and very clearly with these unaged samples. But only if you taste them immediately after pouring. If they are left to air for too long, the respective character is totally lost and only tart and veg notes (mainly cardamom for me) remain. And I'm pleasantly surprised at what barrel aging can still bring out of (especially low-ester) Marks. While it almost doesn't matter with a DOK whether it's aged 10 or 20 years, it has a huge, positive impact on the low-ester HD.Overall, a fantastic set that's second to none. 👍👍👍

Exciting tasting. Some were surprisingly very tasty and flavorful for me. The universally popular distillery in a different light. Trying the base product in this form has its charm. The maturation through aging is then a different league. In the end, I mixed all 8 marks together and left it for 3 weeks, I have to say top. All 8 together really create a good profile.

Big Hampden 8 Marks Collection Tasting DOK unaged: as the last in the row a real ester bomb (as expected) from nose to finish. Tropical overripe fruits and some fermented notes complete the picture. Longest finish of the series. Alcohol well integrated.

Hampton 8 Marks Collection, here the DOK with the highest ester content. The nose and palate are of course predominantly esters, but tropical fruits are also recognizable. There is also a little stickiness on the nose, and it appears overripe and fermented on the palate.

Know the chemistry of your Hampden Rum! The 8 Marks set is very informative and educational. The DOK mark takes the ester content to the extreme. This mark consists mainly of butyrate molecules (citrus, pineapple, banana). On the nose, moreover, artificial nail polish, floral and fermented. In the mouth, overachievingly sweet, yet dry and funky. Acidity as well as associations with sour fruits.

Hampden 8 Marks Collection - Aged vs. Unaged: The DOK, the crown jewel among high-ester lovers of the Hampden Marks. Shows the strongest notes of citrus fruits. Quite sour on the palate. Among the unaged Marks, HGML remains my favorite, followed by C<>H, then DOK and surprisingly OWH. Conclusion: none of the 16 rums was a pleasure and the rating is only relative among them. Still very interesting to taste all Marks under the same conditions and to taste the different expressions of fruit, glue, spice and surprisingly often umami. Soon a set with 3-5 years in cask?

The typical BBQ note for DOK greets you right at the nose. There's also plenty of funk, ester, glue, nail polish remover and tropical fruit. In a perverse way, however, this is unusually drinkable, highly aromatic and balanced! 😄 Certainly mega as an amplifier in various tiki cocktails, pure rather something to show people how much ester you can actually make at Hampden! But overall not the best unaged DOK I know.

The fourth of the 8 Marks set tasted in the session and the highest ester mark. It is certainly an experience. The pineapple and overripe banana profile holds out but here there is lots of glue/ polish/ solvents on the nose. On the palate the first hit is intense, with the esters rising to the top of the mouth and nose. There is also a distinct dryness. The solvents/ polish/ acetone persist through the finish. On balance I can’t rate this particular highly as it isn’t what I might typically consider ‘enjoyable’ and not the sort of nose and palate experience I look for, but it is distinct and interesting. It also delivers on expectations as a Jamaica rum which is on the legal limit of permissible ester levels.

The higher the ester content, the more I like the unaged Hampdens of the 8 Marks series. Lots of esters, fruity and the alcohol is best integrated. You can also drink it quite well neat without aging.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

There's a certain danger here)))) don't bring it close to the fire!!!!! Toxicomaniacs will be thrilled...I guess I've become one now that I've gotten this far. The quintessential funk! Tropical storm! Fruity acid rain. Refinery. It's impossible to comprehend. But it's beautiful!!! Unspeakable flavor! A shock and a high. I don't feel like writing anything anymore. I'm exhausted.

Definitely get that banana cream type vibe. Maybe some vanilla. Pours clear with golden hint. Quite sweet on the finish. It’s very good, though my favourite was probably the HGML. This isn’t all sweetness though, probably a bit of tang at the end.

➡️ OWH: nice surprise. Citrus, freshness, and perfectly integrated alcohol. ➡️ LFCH: more discreet, flatter. The least convincing of the series. ➡️ LROK: things get serious. Pineapple, ripe fruits, acetone... Complex and already very Hampden. My favorite of the first half. ➡️ HLCF: arrival of varnish notes and the famous "funk." Interesting, but still a bit linear. 🚀 Second series: welcome to the ester stratosphere ➡️ <>H: the heart of Hampden. Exotic fruits, banana, complexity, and balance. The typical profile of the distillery. ➡️ HGML: the fruits recede, pastry and marzipan notes take over. ➡️ C<>H: now, no joke. Nail polish remover, explosive acidity, and impressive aromatic concentration. ➡️ DOK: the legend. An avalanche of fruits, pastry, funk, and yet an astonishing harmony. My absolute favorite of the evening. ❤️ 🎯 The big surprise? We organized this tasting "for science" expecting to suffer with some ultra-esterified whites. Well... not at all. Admittedly, these are not rums for every palate, but the whole remained surprisingly coherent and pleasant to taste from start to finish. A true demonstration of Hampden's know-how.

Tried at the Hampden Masterclass with Daniele Biondi during Whisky Live. Great experience to deconstruct Hampden, although the individual unaged spirits weren’t that great overall. 8. DOK 8.3 Bam! Ester in your face as expected. Full range of Hampden notes and already great without aging. Works best out of the 8 marks and now I know why also other DOKs only beed a few years to reach peak performance. Fantastic experience to dive into this vertical.

Tasting with LROK, HLCF, and C<>H. The legendary DOK did not disappoint; intense as almost any other rum at 60% comes, but delicious and complex. So fruity, with so much umami; a great balance of overripe fruit, spices, and notes reminiscent of smoked meat or movie popcorn.
