The surprise here is how well 66.4% hides — pour it and the room fills with glue, overripe banana, pineapple and green apple before you even sip. Oily, creamy, packed with esters, then a long salty-olive, dry finish. One of the first official DOKs, and members still call it a "flüssige Legende." A few feel newer, longer-aged DOKs now edge it out on balance.

Blind DOK Tasting - 2nd place. It’s a very delicious, perfect DOK. Starting with a powerful nose, that will continue on the palate. I found a interesting note of bacon and smokiness, that remind me on a kinf of a whisky barrel finish. The finish is quite long and delicious..

Many fruit esters, but somewhat straightforward. As the first official DOK on the market, this was revolutionary at the time and has paved the way for various successors of the same Marques - in this respect, this bottling almost surrounds something historic. Taste of course very forced on the fruit, but compared to other bottlings with more years (continental) storage, this bottling unfortunately can not quite keep up. Remains a good rum, a few more years in the barrel are the DOK Marque definitely good to face and create a little more balance.

Sau delicious DOK, more on the olive brine side but overall just extremely harmonious! The price-performance ratio was simply awesome back then... For me still one of the best 2009 DOKs on the market.

Mega horny, brutal Hampden! Reminds of the freshness / fruitiness almost to "New Yarmouth". Lots of olive on the palate. How about a dirty martini? 😜

We have a really nice DOK here, not so fruity, as the esters clearly dominate here. It is very funky, but also glue comes through well, from the tropical fruits only some pineapple can be recognized.

I expected a lot from this one but have to admit that I got a bit disappointed. It lacks the taste of the barrel, maturity and especially the complexity that Hampden is known for. The alcohol is very well integrated and it is a fruit bomb with nice acidity, but it's not a fantastic rum. Price does not match the quality.

A Hampden-DOK as it should be.. funky, intense and full of power. I can well understand that it blew the rum world away when it appeared… With today's top DOKs it's harder for it to play at the very front, but for me it remains first-class.. if only for the history alone.

My first DOK. Absolutely brutal and exactly what you'd expect from such a representative. I like it very much and increasingly realize that I simply love these ester bombs with relatively low continental aging. Sure, it almost overwhelms you in mouth and nose and of course I know bottlings that are a bit more complex and balanced, like the FRC C<>H. However, there's hardly anything here that really bothers me. In the mouth, it is very oily and creamy, full-bodied, sweet, strong, and simply very tasty.

Definitely a good DOK and ahead of its time back then. The ester and fruit punch hits you right from the start. On the palate, strong olive aromas, which also bring associations of smokiness. The alcohol is very well integrated; considering the ABV, the finish stays "warm" for a long time.

Olive, marzipan, fruit explosion and lots of acidity, with little cask or smoke note. Alcohol is well integrated. Slightly creamy mouthfeel. This is a very good bottling, but in direct comparison to the CDI and Wild Parrot it is somewhat worse. The other two are rounder and better balanced in direct comparison

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Generally, I'm quite a fan of Hampden, so it doesn't surprise me that I'm enthusiastic, even though sometimes DOKs can be too much, this is not the case here. Fresh fruity bomb, on the nose chemically technical (nail polish remover, thinner, nail polish), on the palate fresh fruit prevails. Nice.

DOK in raw form. What a beast. It blows everything away. Is it fun... that's hard to say. The rum is wild and sharp. The alcohol present. In the nose lots of solvent and fermented fruit. But also citrus and pastry. On the palate full throttle esters. The finish dry and long. It's understandable that the DOK hype was triggered here. Not comparable to the sometimes mild DOK bottlings of today. This is the original.
