Tasted this at SDR23, so my review remains rather concise. I have a difficult time discovering the mark by scent. It feels overwhelmingly sour with lime and vinegar, and subsequently out of balance. It’s simply not sweet enough. Perhaps because the sweet component leans into fructose, raw sugar and yeast, of which I find the latter is rather uncommon. On the palate much more balanced and direct with notes of overripe pineapple, red fruits, lime, green and yellow banana. Exquisitely accompanied by frangipane, almonds and glaze. There’s a light smoky, bacon flavour as well as dry sawdust on the return. This drinks well below its ABV and on the palate it’s absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately the nose lacks the same complexity.

Swell de Spirits has taken great care with this Hampden, and the result shows. Very exuberant, the nose generously reveals overripe exotic fruits, phenolic notes that are very well integrated, but also that fermented, vinegary and buttery side quite typical of the mark <>H. A very solid aromatic profile. The attack on the palate is both intense and very round. You feel the heaviness of the Jamaican profile, but also a creaminess that makes it very approachable. Amidst the fruit and esters, hints of olives complete the aromatic palette. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is very long and very dry, especially with the tannins. Spices, wood and floral aromas join the festivities to embellish the final bouquet. A rum that excels in its field, with an incredible price/quality ratio. Unfortunately, the New Yarmouth cask finish doesn't add any particular value.

28.03.2024 Retasting at Swell de Spirits Masterclass and I stick to my score. Won a few points 😊 ------------------------ #4069 Thanks to a good friend I got these nice Swell de Spirits and they perform pretty well. This is the last of the samples and also a great one. Intense and fruity, one might say dirty as well. Great balance between the elements and I like the rubber note in the back. The empty glass is really nice and I can pick up some herbs and nutts.

Eine krasse Hampden-Nase kommt mit aus dem Glas entgegen! Besonders fallen mit die Aromen der Kategorie 'Milchprodukte' und hier der Vertreter 'ranzige Butter' auf 😉 Am Gaumen nicht ganz so fruchtig wie ich erwartet hatte. Gut ausgewogener zwischen Frucht Würze und Fass. Der lange Nachklang sagt mit mit den salzigen Oliven und medizinischenm Charakter nicht so richtig zu. Sehr guter Hampden mit mir zu extremen Nachklang.

Dégustation online RumX et Swell de Spirit, mars 2024. Des esters vifs mais domestiqués au nez, des fruits et un côté pneu de vélo étonnant. La bouche attaque fort, puis tout se calme avant de reprendre sur des fruits, encore des esters, du beurre, des épices , un côté salé et de la douceur en finale. De loin pas mon favori, ni de la dégustation ni de chez Hampden. Mais, comme souvent chez Swell, c’est très intéressant !

Really nice Hampden Blend! On the nose: cookie dough, overripe fruit, clarified butter, fresh varnish color and lots of esters on the nose but without being too aggressive. Taste: thick and oily like melted butter, some lime zest, star anise, baking aromas, marzipan and slightly salty olive brine. One of the few "young" Hampdens that I really like!

Nez : paf high ester & haribo à la fraise ? Vieille foret humide. Huileux direct. Beurre ? Bouche : franchement alcool quasi neutre, un peu de saumure légère, bcp de fraise, de beurre, d’huile… 9 ans j’aurai jamais deviné. C’est ouf. Le funk est vraiment la, un peu sale, ca kick un peu. Finale un peu courte peut être pour un 9? Il mérite quand même je pense.

The NY 1994 finish really was a good choice here I guess. The <>H intensity is there making for a vibrant young Hampden. On the palate the finish really seems to smooth it out a bit and lengthen the experience into a nice and „soft“ finish. Cheers to Mika and the RumX team for making the master class possible. Very nice line-up!

Eine überreife Frucht- und Esterbombe wie ich sie liebe! Von Nase über Gaumen bis Abgang schmeckt man einen tropischen Fruchtsalat mit viel Ananas, Banane und Estern. Im Mund noch leichte Noten von Holz, aber trotzdem schön cremig. Für mich auf einer Stufe mit dem Swell on Tour #8, aber leider mittlerweile teurer

Goûté au RhumFest. Et malheureusement, je n'aurai pas la possibilité de le regouter je le crains puisqu'il a été sold out en moins de 30secondes sur le site et qu'il était vendu X2 moins de deux heures après. Dommage, j'avais bien aimé et j'aurais voulu creuser.

Tasted quickly at the Rumfest. Very nice bottle, a very nice Hampden H or you will find all the markers you like. I am not under the spell, but it is very personal. Known profile and without surprise for my part I miss a little something.

Der hat mir schon auf dem GRF 2023 mega gut gefallen. Da hatte ich allerdings schon einen langen Tag hinter mir. Anscheinend waren meine Geschmacksnerven vom Velier Tasting nicht zu sehr verwirrt. Absolut schöne Abfüllung. Noch etwas nach oben korrigiert

Banane und Ananas neben viel anderen tropischen Früchten stechen in diesem esterreichen, überreifen Hampden Rum hervor. Hier gibt es keine besonderen Überraschungen für Hampden Fans aber eine exzellente Fruchtbombe mit hervorragend eingebundenem Alkohol.

Swell Masterclass RumX 28.03.2024 Wow was für ein toller Hampden. Wollte damals mir eine Flasche besorgen, war aber leider zu spät dran. Super das es jetzt geklappt ihn endlich probieren zu dürfen. Würde sagen er macht den Nobilis No.14 echt Konkurrenz

Swell de Spirits liefert wieder ab! Der macht richtig Bock. Total funky,Viele Ester, viele tropische und teils vergoreneFrüchte (besonders Ananas), adstringent, der Alkohol ist gut eingebunden. Im Abgang etwas verbrannter Zucker.

Heftig. Timo danke für dieses Brett. An der Nase schon wirklich sehr reifes Obst zu erkennen dazu natürlich drr klassische Ester Geschmack. Ein Richtig geiler Hampden Blend. Zwar sehr jung aber dafür richtig lecker.

Intense, high on esters, Olives, briny notes. Oily, buttery mouthfeel that can overwhelm you. Young, aggressive funkyness. But abv still well integrated. Taste stays with you for some time, sticks to the tongue.
