Baked banana, candied ginger and nail polish sit on a bed of well-integrated oak here. This 18-year Long Pond VRW at 60% is intense but stays elegant — pineapple and passion fruit up front, esters and spice trailing into a long finish. Several tasters call it a rounded, complex Jamaican, though the VRW mark's ester funk is milder than you might expect. Money aside, most rate it highly.

A really beautiful and incredibly intense LP VRW! Just the right amount of wood, combined with candied ginger and baked banana, light tannins and sour esters, plus a nice spice and overall just very elegant and complex. Only >600€ it’s still not worth it, there are plenty of other VRW vintages that cost a fraction and offer a similarly delicious aroma profile! But really, really very tasty it definitely is!!😃

Despite the "low" ester content, a real bomb with lots of fruit on a wooden bowl. If it weren't for the price, all Jamaica fans wouldn't have to think twice.

Very good round Long Pond. I like the high intensity with simultaneous balance. However, it is still a long way off the great Long Pond representatives from Velier. If you take the price into consideration, the decision for me is clearly in favor of the Velier bottlings.

27.08.2022 German Rum Festival Oh dear, I totally forgot to add this one, maybe because of the price tag it had. A pretty good rum but the price tag is really out of bounds compare to other similar bottlings. But of course "Rare Cask" adds to the value 😊 Notes. Ester, polish and overripe fruit on the nose. Palate is oily and fresh with lots of fruit and wood. Finish is medium to long with, fruit, ester and wood with a light smoky note.

Needs very long time to open up. Nevertheless, alcohol remains rather dominat on the nose. Very nice on the palate. Intense yet complex and very elegant. Verdict: nose somewhat disappointing. Palate very good, (European) price absolutely insane -> don’t buy this 🙃

Second official cuvée from Long Pond, this rum knows how to show its strengths. Very elegant, the nose perfectly combines notes of esters and nail polish with exotic fruits and red fruits, all rounded by marzipan, soft spices, and well-blended wood. On the palate, a true aromatic concentration forms on tropical fruits: banana, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, not forgetting citrus (lemon zest) freely expressing themselves. The spicy wood and esters are more in the background here. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish, relatively long, takes over again with esters, varnish, spiced wood, and exotic fruits. A very good rum on paper, which has everything to please except one detail: the price, here stratospheric and incoherent for such a cuvée.

And then to end the day a little Long Pond. Esters are present here, but totally subordinate, for me mostly tropical fruits. Pineapple is recognizable, but banana outshines everything.

Tasted on the GRF22, accordingly, the time to breathe in the glass was very limited - freshly poured in the impression of an expressive Long Pond stuck, which the slightly older age is very good to face. Unfortunately, provided with an opulent price tag, which does not detract from the quality, but is still to be recorded as a pain point - you can get comparable qualities for much less.

Tasted at Pueblo del Ron Nürnberg 2024 at the Catawiki booth. A very tasty Long Pond that makes you want more. The only thing that really spoils the mood is the price, which in my opinion is too high. But nice to have tried it.

On the nose: Spicy, esters, woody and tropical fruits. Some vanilla notes. Toasted notes. Nice complexity on the nose once it opens up. Taste: Smooth and elegant and complex. Woody, roasted and baking spices at first. Ginger notes. Little bit of vanilla notes. Papaya notes. Banana notes. The alcohol is integrated perfectly. Finish: Baking spices, bananas, vanilla, little bit of pastry notes. Same elegant and balanced body holds to the finish. Long finish. I was amazed how smooth this was to sip. Nice complexity on the notes that was leaning little bit towards baking spices and woody notes. I really enjoyed sipping this rum, but as for the price, it is overpriced.

Definitely an interesting representative of Long Pond. On the nose classic fruit, glue, but also a sweeter tone of candied fruit. On the palate a very pleasant fruit profile combined with intense oak masking. Long and intense finish.
