A wonderfully intense and heavy Caroni we have here! A dirty Caroni with lots of wood. A very dark color which I guess is the result of tropical aging. A powerful nose. Very spicy and complex on the palate. I am getting petrol, oak and some fruits/mango in the background! The wood is very present, getting close to bitter but still very enjoyable. A very long finish. I have a large sample so I am going to try it again in a few months to see what oxidation does.

Ordentlich dreckiges Profil mit schweren Teer- und Gummitönen, nur sehr wenig Frucht, viel Holz und ausgewählten Gewürznoten sowie einem Hauch Minze. Macht richtig Spaß im Glas. Entwickelt sich nach Jahren in der offenen Flasche weiter und gewinnt an Komplexität. Für eine höhere Bewertung wirkt der 1994er Jahrgang allerdings etwas zu unausgewogen und wild, was für Caroni-Fans natürlich durchaus reizvoll ist.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Develops amazing aromatic complexity with a little patience and time spent in the bottle. Rather dry Caroni with only discreet, but very charming residual sweetness and a lot of barrel influence, which is undoubtedly intense, but does not tip into the too bitter. One of the bottlings where the long availability is qualitatively inexplicable. Exceptionally good.

Very nice Caroni expression clearly profiting from its long tropical aging. Heavy on wood and cask notes with a nice touch of remaining sweetness and only hints of fruits. Reasonably dirty as well. Like it very much.

Einfach wow! Holz, schwer, Teer, Süß, süffig. Weltklasse für so einen sehr trockenen Rum. Er bleibt mein Liebling unter den schweren Caronis. Viele Tabak- und Teenoten. Im Vergleich zu den anderen Single Casks findet man diesen Rum tatsächlich auch noch für dreistellige Eurobeträge, auch wenn das natürlich immernoch ein absurder Preis ist.

Un rhum très foncé d’apparence. 23 ans de vieillissement tropical. Un monstre. Il lui faut du temps, beaucoup de temps pour se révéler, mais alors il devient un rhum exceptionnel. Toujours marqué par le bois, mais avec une complexité et une profondeur d’arômes jamais goûtée auparavant. La finale est infinie et le verre vide, le lendemain matin raconte une histoire à lui tout seul. En un mot : plus il est oxydé, meilleur il est. Le fond de la bouteille est ma meilleure expérience de rhum à ce jour.

Ein rundum genüsslicher Caroni genau nach meinem Geschmack… so muss er für mich sein… wenn dann noch etwas mehr Frucht (rote Beeren) dabei wäre… er hätte eine Höchstnote verdient 😋

Kleines Caroni Tasting. Dieser hier ist eher auf der dunklen holzigen Seite. Super intensiv. Bisschen bitter, bisschen Teer. Trotzdem sehr rund, komplex, lecker. Für mich bislang einer der besten Caronis die ich bis jetzt im Glas hatte.

Update: Letzter Rest des Samples hat in Qualität eher zugelegt und der Rum hat nochmal an Leben und Frucht gewonnen. Definitiv eine gute Flasche um lange offen zu haben. 👌 Toller tropischer Caroni. Schön dreckig mit angenehm kleiner (aber feiner) Restsüße, schöner Holz Adstringierenz & Minz/Menthol und verbranntem Zucker / Karamell mit Leder und Tabak. Mit Geduld kommt dann etwas Nuss & Nougat an der Nase plus noch 🍌 und nach langer Verweilzeit etwas Mango / getrocknete Mango bzw ein (ganz kleiner) Hauch tropischer Früchte am Gaumen.

Another Caroni 1994 with a very dark profile. Nose is absolutely crazy : so intense and heavy. However, palate is less balanced and probably a little too woody and bitterish. It still tastes really good 🤙

Freshly polished wooden dresser, varnish, fruit and burnt rubber out the back. Very dignified and noble the nose. In the mouth then almost only wood. Dry, astringent. I understand that opinions about this rum are divided, the weak point is in the mouth, in the finish then good again.According to experts, the Open Sample will be even better. Let's see in a few weeks.Edit: This happened nowIn the nose megagut, something more on fruit (mango, banana). You can smell a few hours on it...In the mouth still very astringent, but very complex now. Finish now also a bit more pleasing. Lots of oak and mango. A great Caroni!!!

Extremely dry, fresh, light and bitter like strong Assam black tea with a little mint. Very well balanced, for me personally it is just a little too dry and woody... Nevertheless, an absolute exception for me and really delicious.
