La Favorite La Flibuste 1997
Sip this one neat after dinner — it's soft, round, and built like dessert. Expect prunes, brown sugar, vanilla and a touch of licorice over a clear cane backbone, with oak and baking spice underneath. Several tasters call it the gentlest of the Flibustes, almost liqueur-leaning. The recurring catch: at 40% it tastes sweet, and the finish fades fast for a rum this old.
- Round and balanced
- Prune and vanilla
- Very easy drinking

How does La Favorite La Flibuste 1997 taste?
Aggregated from 62 community reviews.
Soft, sweet prune-and-vanilla agricole sipper Loved for its rounded prune-and-vanilla sweetness and balance, but most agree the finish is short and the 40% leaves it gentle. A pleasure pour, not the punchiest Flibuste.

This is a really good agricole 🤤 Sweet notes paired with fruits and licorice mixed with sugarcane juice 🤤 I kept this bottle for a special moment😎 The alcohol and woos is integrated very well. Blind i would gave it approx. 10 years of aging

Very accessible, intense Agricole. Very tasty. Are there any additives in here?

Blind tasting: Wow, great old Agricole. Incredibly balanced. Will definitely get another chance. Everything was confirmed again in the 2nd tasting. Definitely the best Agricole I've drunk so far. Wow, what an experience. I need a bottle.

Blind tasting, so unfortunately the photo is not very informative. Despite the now unusually low ABV for me, the clear winner of the blind tasting. Superb!

One of the Flibuste with the least character, but I must admit I like this rum.

This is yet another great Flibuste, not up to the 1986 version, but still pretty darn good. The nose is a clear Agricole with spice and fruit to it finished off with a bit of oak. The palate is wonderful and fruity with spices and a tad of licorice. A bit sweeter than the previous releases. A long lingering finish and no wonder why many score this one in the high 90s. I will not go that far because I compare it to the 1986 release.

Nose: Woody with lots of spice and caramel. Palate: The attack is soft and greedy, with a complexity of flavors: honey, vanilla, pear... Finish: Medium-bodied, but super-round with hints of licorice. I find this 1997 vintage much better than the 1992. On the other hand, it's still below the vintages of the '80s. The change from 30 to 23 years of ageing must have something to do with it. But it's still a bonbon on the palate and a pleasure rum to dip into again and again.

I tried 1999 as one of the first samples of decent rum, and I remember not being able to appreciate it, it tasted like a damp cellar to me. Regret not saving the sample for later. About 1997, I like perfumy marshmallow smell on the nose, after a longer while it really comes out. It's a nicely balanced and sippable rum. Even though the strength is not there, the complexity is. finish tad short though. Very sweet, a bit suspicious.

Complex, gourmet rum. The first nose is very woody, then opens up to caramel and baking spices. After a little aeration, vanilla and brown sugar appear. On the palate, the notes of the nose are repeated, with exotic candied fruit, spices and butterscotch. The finish is not extremely long, but still has a softly spicy, fruity woodiness.

A really very interesting rum that is almost more like a liqueur. The nose reveals prunes and lots of spices. Very intense taste of dried tropical fruit, slightly sweet. Relatively heavy agricole.

I haven't had something so fragrant in a long time, a beautifully sweet taste of caramel

I always want to try rum from this distillery (love how those bottles looks). Aroma was sweet (brown sugar) with agricole fragrance, but in the best way possible. I noticed oak, prunes, chocolate and figs with lot of baking spices. At the end I noticed like dirt aroma. Taste was very balanced, gentle with hint of agricole flavor (again in the best way possible). It was sweet - I noticed chocolate, prunes and sugarcane amd hint of oak. I love the combination of grapes and spices in it. Finish was long, gentle little bit spicy, fruity with hint of sugarcane. To be honest this was one of the best I have ever had. You need to try this one.
